RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. The Directors reserve to themselves the right of refusing, cancelling, or prohibiting the exhibition of entries from any person 

who, after 1st  January 1977, has been expelled  from  the membership of any Agricultural or Dairy Society, or who may have attempted to obtain a prize by giving a false Certificate, or by other unfair means, or who  is under exclusion from any Breed Society for fraudulent practices. 

2. The Directors reserve to themselves the right of refusing any entries they may think fit to exclude, or to prohibit the exhibition of any entry, and to retain the entry money paid for such entry, if it be proved to their satisfaction that said entry was contrary to any of the Association’s regulations. 

3. All stock exhibited at the Show must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor in whose name it is entered. In these rules and regulations the word "stock" shall include animals and poultry of any kind whatever. 

4. Stock entered for competition or exhibition and actually in the Show grounds is subject to the control and under orders of the Directors, Secretary, or other Show officials and may not be withdrawn from competition or exhibition without the consent of the Directors or Secretary.  

5. It  is  the  responsibility of exhibitors  to ensure  that  stock brought  into  the Showfield by  them or on  their behalf  is  free  from disease and under proper control at all times. The Association shall not be responsible for any illness, disease, injury or damage contracted or  caused  to  stock,  stock attendants, exhibitors or others  connected with  such  stock on account of  the  state of health of or by the actions of any stock on the Show ground. All exhibitors and others submitting entries shall be deemed to have accepted the terms of these rules. 

6. Persons  making  insulting  remarks  to  or  unduly  interfering  with  any  Exhibitor,  Judge,  Steward  or  other  Official  while  in performance of  their duties or refusing  to accept or display  tickets, or rosettes, etc., awarded by  the  Judge or any unseemly conduct shall be considered guilty of misconduct and dealt with under these rules. 

7. All persons  in charge of Stock or other exhibits and all persons admitted  into  the Show ground shall be subject  to  the  rules governing the same and shall obey the orders of the Association’s representatives. All exhibitors are held responsible for the conduct of employees and helpers. 

8. The Stewards have power to enforce all the regulations of the Association in their different departments. 9. A protest having reference to exhibits at the Show may be lodged by any exhibitor competing in the same class. Such protests 

shall be  lodged with  the Secretary before  four o’clock on  the day of  the Show,  stating  clearly  the grounds of objection and accompanied by a deposit of Five Pounds for each protest. This deposit shall be forfeited if in the opinion of the Directors the protest was a frivolous one. The Directors reserve the power to  lodge any protest themselves without fee.  In either case the Secretary shall give written notice to the exhibitor of such stock as may be protested against within seven days of the Show. All protests  shall be  considered by  the Directors  at  their  first meeting  after  the  Show, or  at  a meeting  specially  called  for  the purpose and the Secretary shall communicate the result to the exhibitor and protester within seven days of such meeting  

10. The violation of any of the regulations shall render the offending exhibitor liable to forfeiture of all premiums awarded or such proportion as the Directors may think fit, expulsion from the Association, and prohibition from competing at any future Show of the Association.  

11. The decision of the Directors shall in all cases be final in connection with the conduct of the Show. All persons present at the Show whether as a Judge, Exhibitor, visitor, or otherwise, shall be deemed thereby to have agreed to refer the subject matter of such a decision to the final determination of the Directors to the exclusion of all Courts of Law. 

12. The Directors reserve to themselves the right to report the decisions under these rules, along with the names and addresses of the persons decided against, to kindred Associations or Societies, and to such newspapers or journals as they may think proper. Every person present at the Show in whatever capacity shall be deemed to have consented to such measures being taken. 

13. No exhibitor shall have more than three entries in any one class. 14. All  livestock must be on  the ground not  later  than 9.a.m. and  shall not be  removed before 3 p.m. without written  consent 

obtained from the Secretary. Attendants must remain in charge of their stock while on the Show ground. Any infringement of this Rule will cause forfeiture of Tickets and Prizes.  

15. In the event of there being fewer than three exhibits in any Class, only one prize may be awarded.  16. The Veterinary Adviser will examine the Grazing Cattle before judging commences.  17. The Entry Fees shall be stated under the various sections. 18. Animals not included in the Sections for competition may be exhibited as extra stock on payment of the appropriate entry fees 

and will receive Honorary Premiums, but are not eligible for money or other prizes. 19. Admission  tickets will be sent  to all exhibitors, who are not Members of  the Association, whose entry  fees amount  to £5 or 

over. 20. Exhibitors must state on Entry Forms whether or not their exhibits are eligible for the Special Prizes. If no declaration is made at 

entry it will be assumed that exhibits are not eligible for any of these Special Prizes. Entry forms must contain entries for only one Exhibitor. 

21. Admission tickets will be sent to exhibitors for the admission to the Show Field of their employees who are in charge of their Stock. A maximum of two tickets will be allowed for entries in any one section. 

22. Prize Money will not be paid unless the exhibitor’s full name and address is shown on the Entry Form at the time of entry. 23. Prize Money will be given in cash, along with Rosettes, to the Stock Attendant. 24. Presented  cups must  be  returned  to  the  Secretary’s  tent  on  Show  day  to  be  forwarded  to W.J.Blair,  Jeweller,  Kelso  for 

engraving. Winning exhibitors will be notified when the engraved trophy is ready for collection.  25. All entries must be made on the printed form supplied and must reach The Secretary, ACCOMPANIED BY THE TOTAL ENTRY 

FEE, not later than 19 days prior to the Show. Late entries will only be accepted in those classes where specific provision exists. Receipts will not be given unless requested.

THE ROYAL HIGHLAND & AGRICULTURAL  SOCIETY OF SCOTLAND 

 LONG SERVICE AWARDS  

These awards are given to farm workers for approved service in full‐time employment : 

 A) with one employer on the same or different holdings, or 

B) on the same holding with different employers  

The award categories are as follows:  

For service of 30 to 44 years a Silver Medal and Certificate 

 For service of 45 to 59 years 

a Silver Gilt Medal and Special Certificate Employers may obtain application forms from the Secretary.  The proposed date for the next presentation in Berwickshire is 2017.

Held under the rules of the Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain.  Horses will be judged individually on a triangle and finally paraded together as a class.  To be judged on confirmation, movement and suitability for sport.  Handlers can 

wear white or tweed. (Ref: 2015 SHB(GB)

 RIDDEN AND WORKING HUNTERS (MAIN) 

 

Class 410  Hunter, Gelding or Filly, four to five years old (foaled in 2011 or 2012) to be shown under saddle.  Rider 16 years or over on 1st January of year of Show.   

Class 411  Working Hunter, Mare or Gelding.. Rider 16 years or over on 1st January of year of show. 

Class 412  Round the Ring Open Hunters Jumping Competition. Rider 19 years or over on 1st January of year of Show. To be judged on style over a series of natural fences, maximum height 3'6" (107cms).   Note: This class does not qualify competitors for the championship or other ridden class Trophies. 

Class 413   Riding Club Horses. Riding horse 4 years old and over, exceeding 15hh (149cms).  Rider 17 years or over on 1st January of year of show. UNRESTRICTED.  Competitors will be expected to give an individual display incorporating two small fences. The class will then be judged on suitability and style.  Note: This class does not qualify competitors for the championship or other ridden class Trophies. Hunter Champion is not eligible for this class. 

COLOURED HORSES (RING 4) Special Rosettes for Coloured Horse Champion and Reserve

 RETRAINED RACEHORSE (RINGS 2 & 3) 

 Class 420   Retrained Racehorse.  The ROR Tattersalls Scottish Show Series 2016 Qualifier. This 

class is restricted to the first 15 entries.  The first three go forward to the championship at the Royal Highland Show 2017. Thoroughbred mare or gelding 4yrs old or over and of any height. Riders must be 15 years old or over. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, pelham or simple double bridle and should be plaited. All entries must be registered with the RoR and have raced in GB. There will be a prize for the highest placed veteran 15 years or over. The class will be run under the rules of the RoR. Horses must be ridden by the judge. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force.  Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.  Racing injuries and blemishes will NOT be ignored in this series.  Prizes : Rosettes and Tesco Vouchers 1st to 4th place. Veteran prize, £25 voucher to be redeemed from RoR office and qualification for the Veteran final at Aintree.  1st £50 plus voucher for jacket, 2nd £25, 3rd £20, 4th £10. 

 Class 421  RoR/TBA (Thoroughbred Breeders Association) Retrained Racehorse Challenge 2016.  

Mare or gelding 4 yrs old or over and of any height.  Riders must be 15 years old or over on the 1st January.  Horses to be ridden in any bridle and should be plaited.  The fires 3 qualify for the final at Royal Windsor Show 2017.  All entries must be registered with RoR and HAVE raced in GB.  Horses will NOT be ridden by the judge.  Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat wit a chinstrap. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations form time to time in force.  Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series.  The class to be judged 50% jumping, 20% Style while jumping and performance and 30% awarded for show, manners and suitability to be retrained.  Prizes : Rosettes and Tesco Vouchers 1st to 4th  place.  1st £50 plus voucher for jacket, 2nd £25, 3rd 20, 4th £10.  Veteran prize  (15+): £25 voucher to be redeemed from RoR office and qualification for the Veteran final at Aintree. 

 

PHASE 1 Jumping to be judged: 8 rustic jumps ( 2’ 6” – 3’) with a maximum spread of 85cm). The following points to be deducted at the end of each jumping round: 10 points to be deducted for a knock down, 15 points to be deducted for a refusal, 20 points for second refusal. Elimination for 3rd refusal or fall.    PHASE 2 Class returns without boots and judged for an individual show/conformation. (In some classes, at the judge’s discretion, horses might be asked to do a ‘show’ following their jumping without leaving the ring. This is often the case with a large number in the class)  Each horse to complete an individual show of no longer than 1 ½ minutes. Show to include the following movements: Walk, Trot, canter showing change of leg, extended canter (gallop) halt and stand, walk off on long rein. Total marks out of 30% for Show, manners and suitability to be retrained.

Blair Castle Tullibardine Contractors  Open Working Hunter Pony Championships 2016 

To be held at Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Country Fair   The first four ponies in classes 501; 503; and 505 will qualify for the finals.  If ponies placed 1st to 4th have previously qualified, qualification may go down to 6th place. Please note there is no need to have jumped a 

clear round. Qualifiers held under BSPS rules; (particularly no whips longer than 30cm and no spurs).  Class 500  Novice WHP: Mare or Gelding 4 years old and over, not exceeding 133cms.  Riders not 

to have attained their 14th Birthday before 1st January  in the current year. Not eligible for Qualification to Blair Castle WHP Championships, Jumps not exceeding 46cms. 

 Class 501   Open WHP: Mare or gelding 4years old and over, not exceeding 133cms. Riders not to 

have attained their 14th birthday before 1st January in the current year.  Fences will not  exceed 90cms.   

 Class 502  Novice WHP: Mare or gelding 4 years old and over exceeding 133cms and not exceeding 

143cms. Riders not to have attained their 17th birthday before 1st January in the current year.  Jumps will not exceed 61cms. Not eligible for Qualification for Blair Castle WHP Championships.  

 Class 503  Open WHP: Mare or gelding 4 years old and over exceeding 133cms and not exceeding 

143cms.  Riders not to have attained their 17th birthday before 1st January in the current year.  Jumps not exceeding 1m. 

 Class 504   Novice WHP: Mare or gelding 4 years old and over exceeding 143cms and not exceeding

 Class 506  Working Hunter: Mare or gelding 4 years old and over, exceeding 153cms. Riders not to 

attained their 16th birthday before the day of the show.  Jumps not exceeding 1m.  (The winner of this class not eligible to compete for the Glen Cup or The Millennium Trophy.) Not eligible for Qualification to Blair Castle WHP Championships. 

 Class 507  Pairs Jumping ‐ Riders 8‐18 years old on 1st January of year of show.  Jumps not 

exceeding 60cms. To be judged on “togetherness” control over natural fences. If sufficient entries this class will be split on the day, by age of riders. Not eligible for Qualification to Blair Castle WHP Championships.

 RULES 

 1. All postal entries must reach Jen Logan, accompanied by entry money, by Monday 27th July 2015. Email 

entries will pay on the day. Members of SWRI must state the branch to which they belong at this time.  

 

2. On the day of the show, computer generated labels with your name/number and the class you have entered will be handed to competitors. These can then be secured to exhibits in the usual way. The brown show tickets will not be posted out before the show.  

 

3. Only one entry allowed in all classes, except in Stick classes where no more than three entries are allowed.   

4. Articles in the Handicraft classes must be the bona fide work of the competitor and completed within the last year. In the stick dressing ‐ Class 78*‐ ‘a novice’ has never won 1st place in any competition.  

 

5. The Committee is not responsible for exhibits.   

6. Exhibits must be staged by 10.00am and should be removed between 4.30pm ‐ 5.00pm.   

7. Entry Money:  25p per entry.   

Competitors with fifteen or more entries will receive a free admission ticket to the Showground.   

 

Please submit entries early giving plenty of time for your ticket to be posted out to you.  

 

 Due to the risk of contamination we do not recommend that show items be consumed. 

    

 There will be a Sales Table of Farm Produce, Home Baking, Flowers etc., within the Tent during the afternoon.  

 Contributions will be gratefully received. These may be sent to any Committee member, or  donated on the day of the 

show

Industrial Schedule Cont’d  

Recipe   

Chocolate Chiffon Cake   

Cooking time ‐ Prep: 45 mins Cook: 1 hr, 15 mins   

Ingredients   

* 65ml sunflower oil, plus extra for greasing  

* 4 large eggs, separated  

* 1 tsp vanilla bean paste/ essence  

* 190g golden caster sugar  

* 25g cocoa powder  

* 150g plain flour  

* ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda  

Method  1. Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Grease and line a 25cm round deep cake tin with baking parchment. In a large bowl, mix the oil, egg yolks, vanilla paste, caster sugar and 200ml water until well combined. Sift in the cocoa powder and whisk until smooth.  

2. Sift in the flour, bicarb and 1 tsp salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites to stiff peaks. Fold into the batter with a large metal spoon and mix until everything is well combined.  

3. Gently pour the mixture into your cake tin, then bang it on the work surface twice to expel any large air pockets. Bake for 1 hr 10 mins or until the cake springs back when gently prodded and an inserted skewer comes out clean. (Cover with foil after 1 hr if the cake starts to get too dark.) Remove from the oven, cool in the tin for 10 mins, then transfer to a large wire rack and peel off the parchment. Leave until the cake is completely cool.
