12.4 Mid-Western Regional Youth Council REPORT BY THE MANAGER, COMMUNITY SERVICES TO 15 AUGUST 2018 ORDINARY MEETING GOV400066, COS300610
RECOMMENDATION That Council: 1. receive the report by the Manager, Community Services on the Mid-Western
Regional Youth Council;
2. note the minutes of the Youth Council meetings convened on 13 March, 22 May and 19 June 2018;
3. note the result summaries of the two gap analysis surveys for youth services within the Mid-Western region; and
4. note recent Youth Council discussions and activites, as well as future direction and planning.
Executive summary This report seeks to inform Council of recent Youth Council discussions and activities, as well as future direction and planning. It also provides summaries of recent gap analysis surveys conducted with local youth and service providers. Disclosure of Interest Nil. Detailed report The Mid-Western Regional Youth Council hosted a variety of events and activities across the region during this quarter for Youth Week 2018. It also discussed future events, such as the upcoming Justice Crew concert (in partnership with the Youth Council), the redevelopment of the Mudgee Skatepark and the proposed Bluntside Skatepark Contest series. As well as a partnership with the ARIA nominated hip-hop group, Justice Crew during its upcoming tour, Youth Council has also established relationships with the Mudgee Readers’ Festival and Orana Arts in relation to a number of activities, including some which could potentially provide interested Youth Councillors in valuable work experience in the field of event management. The Youth Council is pleased to support the introduction of a youth book club following a representation made to it by a local student. This venture is titled ‘Book Bouncers Teen Book Club’ and will meet on the first Tuesday of each month in the Mudgee Library Youth Room. The next major projects on Youth Council’s radar include a visit to the region’s school students by inspirational speaker, John Coutis, as well as monthly life skills seminars and workshops to be rolled out across the region, starting with the topic of resume preparation. A major funding

contributor to Council’s Youth Services, KEPCO, has been invited to participate in the latter project in the form of a Human Resources representative facilitating the Kandos workshop.
