SPORTS NEWS St Lawrence Horse Sports Day

Congratulations to Chloe Underwood and Harrison

Galloway-Smith who competed last Thursday and Friday

at the St Lawrence Horse Sports Days in Coonabarabran.

Chloe and Harrison competed with many placings in

numerous events. Harrison Galloway Smith was awarded

Overall High Point Age Champion of the event for 6 year

old boys. Congratulations to both riders and their

horses for their very successful results.

Girls Softball State Quarter Finals 2019

After winning the Western Area Competition of PSSA,

Mudgee Girls’ Softball Team travelled north to take on

North-West Region’s champion team which was Wee

Waa PS. The girls have been training after school for

the past two terms and were very excited for an over-

night trip away.

After a four hour bus ride, the team settled in a caravan

park in nearby Narrabri and ventured to the local

Rugby League park to stretch their weary legs for a

short, sharp training session. Mr Rodney Stott was able

to generously support the team by organising a

dinner at the local RSL Club that night which the girls

were very grateful for.

The following morning was an early start for a 40 minute trip across to Wee Waa for the game.

Mudgee won the toss and batted first but were very quickly out and back on the field with their mitts. Wee Waa scored

one run and with some pretty sharp fielding, Mudgee were back in bat again. Mudgee started to get in the zone as

Chelsea Mottershead, Isis Steedman, Macy Dowler and Madi O’Brien were all able to get home before the end of the

second innings.

In the third innings, Chloe Underwood, Tiarna Riley and Isis Steedman were able to get home again with some big

hitting from Cathy Mottershead and Sage Matheson-Gayford. The score was 7-6 by the halfway point in the game.

The fourth innings was kept to no scores either side with electric fielding from both teams. Rachel Marshall was deadly

with her pitching all game, not giving the batters an inch of breathing room.

The fifth innings allowed replacements to bring energy to the team and Lily Philpott and Jodi Stott both got on base

with their hits, allowing Madi O’Brien and Tiarna Riley to score their second for the day and Andie Dowdy was able to

add to MPS total with a run of her own.

Mudgee had a good lead but with a few fielding errors, Wee Waa

were given a sniff and nearly brought it home with three runs. The

final moments were hard to watch but Mudgee was able to hold

out a fast finishing Wee Waa to win 10-9.

Thank you to the families that made the effort to travel to watch,

especially Isis, Madi and Sage families who all had other

commitments but were still able to make it game day. A huge

thank you to Mrs Katrina Underwood who also made the trip to

give the girls tips when they were needed. Your help was

invaluable.

P&C Update Thank you to everyone who supported the Father's Day stall. Children had a wonderful time choosing gifts from the stall which included beef jerky, delicious chocolate spoons, leather key rings, Dexter milk soap and succulent plants, all sourced from local producers. We hope everyone had a lovely day on Sunday and enjoyed their gift.

Uniform Shop Open Wednesday 2.30pm to 3.30pm

Spring has arrived and the uniform shop has a fantastic new microfibre hat available for $15. This hat provides great sun protection with a wide brim, scrunches into a school bag and still keeps its shape! You can drop in and see us in the school residence on Wednesdays or order online from www.mudgeepublic.com.au and your order will be delivered to your child’s classroom every Wednesday.

Canteen September is Fruit & Veg month:

This month is all about linking eating fruit and vegetables with good times, superheroes, superpowers and adventures! Every Wednesday in September, Tracey will be cooking up a dish featuring a vegetable as the superhero ingredient. Children can visit the canteen for a free serve at recess on Wednesdays. They will receive a sticker for each dish they try. The class with the most stickers at the end of the month will receive a delicious fruit and vegetable treat for the whole class to share. Volunteer Update: Thank you Anna from K1/N for volunteering your time in the canteen last week. Anna helped cook up some brussel sprouts which were taste

tested by 1T. Anna really enjoyed serving the kids who, much to their surprise, found they really liked the brussel sprouts! Almost every child came back for seconds and even thirds. What was the secret? A little bit of added butter and bacon. The butter does wonders for the flavour of brussel sprouts and the familiarity of bacon helped tempt the kids to try something new.

This week it's 1S's turn to help and week 8 (week beginning 9th Sept), it’s 1C. No cooking skills are required and you can name your day and hours. Please drop down to the canteen and have a chat to Tracey, email [email protected] or send us a message on the P&C Facebook page.

MUDGEE NORTH-WEST LEGACY Legacy Badge Day 6 Sep 19

One unique organisation stands by the de-pendants of veterans who gave their lives or health in the service of their nation. Legacy cares for the families of defence force personnel killed in war or other hazardous service, in peacekeeping operations or in accidents whilst training for war, and those

who have died subsequently or are incapacitated. Caring for this extended family is a big task as we seek to assist them in coping with their lives, both financially and emotionally, whether they are young or old. We help organise housing, education, medical expenses and important special things, like simple companionship. Legacy is funded by public donations, which enable us to perform our legacy of care.

There are many widows and dependants in Mudgee North West Division who depend on Legacy.

Badges are available at our office at 133 Market Street, Mudgee, and Bunnings Mudgee during Legacy week, as well as various locations in other towns within our Division on Badge Day. We also have pens, wristbands and Army, Navy, Nurse, Digger and Air Force bears.

For enquiries please call: 1800 356 550 or 6370 8600
