EQ Bpass:Thisswitchremovesthegraphicequalizersectionfromthesignalpath.(SeeBlockdiagramonPage8.)TheBYPASSswitchdoesnot,however,affecttheINPUTGAIN,orLOWCUTfilters.

EQ Bpass LED:ThisredLEDlightswhentheEQisinbypassmode.Notethatbypassmodeonlyeffectsthegraphic equalizer section of the 12 Series EQs. TheINPUTGAIN and and LOWCUT controls remain unaffectedwhen the EQ is bypassed.

Boost/Cut Range Selection Switch and LEDs:Thisswitchselectswhichofthetwoboost/cutrangestheequalizerwilluse,either6dBor15dB.TheredLEDlightswhenthe15dBrangeisselected,andtheyellowLEDlightswhenthe6dBrangeisselected.NotethattheBOOST/CUTswitchisslightlyrecessed.Thisistopreventacciden-talactivationoftheswitch,possiblycausingdamagetoothersoundsystemcomponents.

Output Level Bar Graph:ThesefourLEDsindicateoutputleveloftheequalizer.TheredLEDis3dBbelowclip-pingandismarkedas+18dBu.Itmonitorsthelevelattheoutputoftheequalizerafterallotherprocessing.

Clip LED:ThisLEDlightswheneveranyinternalsignallevelreaches3dBbelowclippingwhichmayoccurwhenanyofthefollowinghappen:1)theinputsignalishotterthan+22dBu,2)excessivegainisappliedbytheinputgaincontrol,or3)excessiveboostisappliedusingthefrequencysliders.

Frequenc Band Slider Controls:Each one of these slider potentiometers will boost or cut at its noted frequencyby6dBor15dB,dependinguponthepositionoftheBOOST/CUTRANGEswitch.Whenalltheslidersareinthe center detented position the output of the equalizer is flat. The frequency band centers of the 1231 are marked at1/3rdofanoctaveintervalsonISOstandardspacings,whilethefrequencybandcentersofthe1215aremarkedat2/3rdsofanoctaveintervalsonISOstandardspacings.

Low Cut Enable Switch:TheLOW-CUTswitchinsertsorremovesthe18dB/octave40HzBessellow-cutfilterfromthesignalpath.WhentheLOW-CUTswitchispushedin,theLOW-CUTfilterisINtheaudiopath.

Insertthegraphicequalizerbetweenthesignalsource(usuallyamixer)andthepoweramplifiers(orthecrossoverifthereisone).Adjustthelevelandequalizationasrequiredtoyieldthedesiredsystemresponse.Thelongthrowfad-

ers of the EQs allow very precise settings of the equalization for accurate equalization curves.Foroptimumsignal-to-noiseresponse,thegainstructureofthesoundsystemmustbeproperlysetup.Eachcompo-nentofthesoundsystemshouldbesetatitsnominaloperatinglevel,startingwiththefirstelementinthesystem,usually a mixing console.
