PROFILE Helmut has worked in a wide range of natural and cultural environments and capacities from carpentry-joinery through surveying, industrial design, architecture, research, construction and project management, adjudicator, teacher, expert witness and developer, from Antarctica to Australia, through the USA, Asia and Europe.
He has undertaken projects for clients as diverse as: - Construction management of the fitout for the Sydney headquarters of
the Australian Federal Police and the Department of Immigration, amongst others
- Restoring an apartment building bombed out during World War II; the Gestaltung of Berlin’s major housing mortgage bank, and designing the concept for a $1.2 Billion water and waste treatment works in Land Brandenburg
- Providing services coordination and contract administration consultancy for two Sydney Olympic buildings
- Assisting with the reorganization of AMP’s Facilities Management - Project managing the refurbishment of an early 19th Century, 13 level
high-rise building, in Sydney’s CBD. Personal projects include: - Deckhand, expeditioner, surveyor, photogrammetrist, aerial

Shipping container sized, fully prefabricated, technology focused modules, such as kitchens, laundries, bathrooms and bedrooms etc; using a rigid monocoque structure of lightweight steel framing clad in tough fibre-composite, to which can be attached accessories for different needs, climates and cultures.
Modules are stackable and horizontally connectable or extended with on-site construction, including earth walls, to form larger buildings or different building types.
The “MiaMia” version of the HeltaShelta system is a near self-sustainable, portable house that transforms from a shipping container area of 14.5m2 to 87m2 and sleeps up to 12 people.
The MiaMia enables Aboriginals to readily move from one community to another.
