Eleven times in 2011 we had the privilege of helping a family open the door to a new life – one that transported them from living in mere housing to living in a home. The smiles and tears that accompany accepting the keys to their own front door are the reward that motivates the entire Habitat family. That moment symbolizes their newfound independence, their physical and emotional security, and their pride in possession of their home. It must be seen in person to be fully appreciated.

We feel blessed to witness this event every time. It cements the documented belief of the Habitat mission that the benefits of homeownership for families, communities and the nation are profound. When individuals and families own their home, they establish roots in their communities and have a greater stake in the growth, safety and development of their neighborhoods and cities.

We thank you for the role you played in positively impacting the eleven families of 2011 whoare now homeowners. We hope we can count on your continued support to open the door to homeownership for twelve more families in 2012.

Executive Director

Dayton Ohio Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people from all walks of life to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so there are decent and affordable homes in safe communities where families can live and grow.

More than 3,000 volunteers donated 22,000 hours to Habitat helping with office work, serving on committees, mentoring partner families, working in the ReStore, and building homes. The calculated value of their service is more than $469,920 – an extraordinary contribution!

Since 2008, all new Habitat homes are EnergyStar certified. Some of the additional “green” features of our homes include:

Volunteers Families

ReStore

Construction

Low-E Energy Efficient Windows• High Efficiency Furnace• Engineered Joists/Floor System• Extensive Draft Sealing & Duct Sealing•

Programmable Thermostats• Energy Efficient Lighting• Insulation of Attics to R-40 and Walls to • R-19 with Continuous R-5 Sheathing

Our stream of revenue retail program continues to generate funds by accepting donations of new or gently used building and home improve-ment materials and selling them at a discount to the public. A dual outcome is repurposing tons of material that would otherwise end up in a land-fill. For example, this past year 4,717 gallons of remixed paint were sold rather than thrown away, and 18,583 pounds of electronics were recycled to a third party end user.

This commitment to sustainable building practices results in energy savings for our homeowners, minimizes waste, and preserves the environment.

In 2011, 46 partner families were at various stages of their journey toward responsible homeownership.

18 families fulfilled a total of 720 hours of required homeownereducation in:

Budgeting• Home Maintenance• Legal Issues• Insurance• Community Resources• Nutrition•

In 6 different communities, a total of 11 families completed their partnership requirements, saved a down payment, and became mort-gage and tax-paying owners of their first home. As a result, 41 children now have a chance to break the cycle of poverty.

Meet our 2011 HabiTEAMS!

Dayton Habitat's HabiTEAM building days are not an average team builder.  Give your employees or social group a change of pace from the everyday and offer a hand up, not a hand out, to a local family seeking affordable homeownership.  HabiTEAM opportunities range from a commitment of just one day to the completion of an entire house. We build year‐round Tuesday through Saturday throughout Montgomery County and are generally able to accommodate 6‐8 volunteers at a time on a build site, depending on the work schedule. Click the group names below to visit their websites:
