High performance,
cementitious adhesive forceramic tile and stone;smoothing compound forinteriors and exteriors;mortar for brick andconcrete block walls
CLASSIFICATION IN COMPLIANCE WITHEN 12004Adesilex P4 is an improved (C2) fast setting (F)cementitious adhesive classified as C2F.
Adesilex P4is CE marked, as declared inITTcertificateN 25040260/Gi (TUM)issued by the TechnischeUniversitt Mnchen laboratory (Germany).
WHERE TO USE
Tile and stone flooring installations
Floor bonding of all types of medium to large ceramictiles, natural stone (if not sensitive to moisture or subjectto surface efflorescence), terracotta, and terrazzo ininteriors and exteriors.
Smoothing compoundInterior and exterior smoothing of most substratesgenerally used in building, provided they are clean, suchas concrete slabs, cementitious screeds, and existingceramic tile, terrazzo and natural stone floors.
Brick and concrete block wallsExpansive mortar for brick or concrete block walls.
Typical application examples Full bed bonding of large format porcelain tiles on
floors subject to heavy traffic, such as in offices,shopping malls, hospitals and schools.
Bonding of natural stone and terrazzo, including largeformat.
Fixing quarry tiles, klinker or single-fired tiles onterraces and balconies.
Fixing ceramic tiles over underfloor heatinginstallations.
Laying ceramic tiles and natural stone on old floors(ceramic, natural stone, cement, terrazzo), providedthey are solid and perfectly clean.
Convenient levelling and localised smoothing withrapid curing properties prior to fixing ceramic tiles.
For replacing filling voids left by defective tilesremoved from existing tiled floors.
Bonding of brick and concrete blocks for rapid wallconstruction.
TECHINICAL CHARACTERISTICSAdesilex P4 is a grey powder composed of hydraulicbinders and fine-graded minerals, containing high levelsof synthetic resins and special additives developed inthe MAPEI Research and Development Laboratories.
When mixed with water,Adesilex P4 becomes a mortarwith the following properties:
semi-fluid consistency - easy to trowel;
100% contact area is guaranteed.Adesilex P4 can beused for adhesive beds from 3 mm to 20 mm. Ideal forexternal installations and heavy traffic areas;
able to accomodate irregularities in the substrate andtiles;
powerful bond to most materials used in building;

cures rapidly minimal shrinkage;
water resistant, weatherproof and resistantto frost.
RECOMMENDATIONSDo not useAdesilex P4: on walls or inclined surfaces;
on wood and wood conglomerates;
on metal surfaces, rubber, PVC or linoleum;
with natural or artificial stone material slabsliable to moisture expansion.
APPLICATION PROCEDUREFLOOR INSTALLATIONPreparing the substrateThe substrate must be cured, mechanicallystrong, free of loose materials, grease, oils,paint, wax and sufficiently dry.Cementitious substrates should not continueto shrink after the installation of ceramic tiles.During spring and summer, the cementitiousscreeds must be cured for at least 28 days,unless they are not produced with MAPEIspecial binders for screeds, such asMapecem, Mapecem Pronto, Topcem orTopcem Pronto.Dampen surfaces that have been heated bythe exposure to sunlight with water.Gypsum substrates and anhydrite screedsmust be perfectly clean, sufficientely hardand free of dust. It is essential to prime themwith Primer G or Mapeprim SP. Areassubject to high humidity must be treated withPrimer S.
Preparing the mixMixAdesilex P4 in a clean vessel with
3.2-3.6 litres of clean water for every 20 kgpowder until a smooth lump-free paste isobtained. Let the mix stand for 3 minutes,then stir again, when the mix is ready for use.Mixed this wayAdesilex P4 will have a potlife of approx. 60 minutes at +23C and 50%R.H.If both adhesive and tiles are very thick, orthe tiles are particularly heavy, 20% ofsuitably graded clean sand may be added toprevent shrinkage or settling.
Applying the mixApplyAdesilex P4 to the substrate with asuitable trowel.The selection of the correct trowel dependson the evenness of the substrate, the size ofthe tile and the profile of the back.For flat surfaces and medium size tiles useMAPEI trowel no. 6 or no. 10 (consumptionapprox. 3-5 kg/m2).For uneven surfaces, large size tiles, tileswith highly profiled ribs or lugs, MAPEI trowelno. 10 or a floor trowel is recommended(consumption approx. 5-10 kg/m2).Consumption is generally 1.4 kg/m2 for eachmm of thickness.
Installing the tilesDo not wet the tiles before fixing. Only whenthe backs are very dusty is it advisable to dip
the tiles in clean water. Dry off before fixing.Lay the tiles into the bed ofAdesilex P4 withlight hand movement to ensure 100%coverage.The open time ofAdesilex P4 in normaltemperatures and humidity is approx.
15 minutes. Unfavourable weather conditions(strong sun, drying wind, high temperature)may shorten the open time, sometimes quitedrastically, to just a few minutes.For this reason, constant checks must bemade to see if the adhesive has formed askin or is still fresh to the touch.Dampening the substrate before applying theadhesive helps to lengthen the open time.However, if a surface skin has formed,
retrowel the adhesive.It is not advisable to wet the adhesive once ithas formed a skin because, a non-adhesivefilm will be formed.Any necessary adjustment of the tiles shouldbe carried out within 30 minutes after laying.Tiles fixed withAdesilex P4 must not besubject to washout or rain for 3 hours at atemperature of +23C and must be protectedfrom frost and hot sun for at least 24 hoursafter installing.
GROUTING AND SEALINGJoints between the tiles can be grouted after4 hours with the relevant MAPEI cementitiousor epoxy grout, available in different colours.Expansion joints must be sealed with therelevant MAPEI sealant.
LIGHT FOOT TRAFFICFloors are able to take light foot traffic afterapproximately 4 hours.
READY FOR USEFloor finishes are ready for use after approx.24 hours.
SMOOTHINGPreparing the substrateSubstrates must be level, sound, consistent
and free of loose materials, grease, oils,paint, wax, etc. and sufficiently dry.Anhydrite substrates must be thoroughly dry,sufficiently hard and free of dust (check forresidual moisture) and must be previouslytreated with Primer G.In areas where damp service conditions willprevail prime the substrate with eitherPrimer S or Mapeprim SP.
Applying the mixApply the mix with a steel float. Whenneeded, additional coats may be applied inrapid succession as soon as the previouscoat has hardened.
Installing the tilesTheAdesilex P4 smoothing layer can be tiledover as soon as it has hardened (3 to 4 hours,depending on the temperature and theabsorbency of the substrate).
BRICK AND CEMENT BLOCK WALLSPreparing the mixAdesilex P4 should be mixed in a cleanreceptacle with 5-5.5 litres of clean water forevery 20 kg bag until a smooth lump-free mixis obtained. Let the mix stand for 3 minutesthen stir again and the mix is ready for use.Adesilex P4 has a pot life of approx.60 minutes at +23C and 50% R.H.
Laying brick or concrete blocksPour theAdesilex P4 mix into a receptaclelarge enough for the size and shape of thebrick or cement blocks.Place the brick or concrete block on the
