This two-credit course is designed to enhance students overall English competence through listening,
speaking, and reading. Besides the in-class learning, students have to spending time studying on an
online learning platform ( ) outside the class to perfect their English. Students are also
required to work in groups for presentations.

Requirements & Rules:
1. Class attendance, lesson preparation and active class participation are required.
2. Absence from a class is no excuse for not knowing the assignment and what has been discussed in
that class. It is your responsibility to ask your classmates or me what has been covered in the
class.
3. Cheating on the exam is absolutely not permitted. If someone is found cheating on an exam, it
means he/she will get a zero point for that exam.
4. There will be no make-up exams unless you have valid and official reasons for absence beforehand.
5. The handouts I give you should be kept at least to the end of this semester for later reference or final exam.
6. Please turn off your cell phone during the two-hour class period.
Grading:
1. Attendance and participation 10%
2. Midterm exam 25%
(Note: It covers Units 2&3 in the textbook American English File 4, 2nd Edition, along with the exercises from
English proficiency tests. The listening section accounts for 30% of the midterm exam and will contain
questions related to the textbook CD (20%) as well as English proficiency tests (10%).)
3. Final exam 25%
(Note: It covers Units 4&5 in the textbook American English File 4, 2nd Edition, along with the exercises from
English proficiency tests. The listening section accounts for 30% of the final exam and will contain questions
related to the textbook CD (20%) as well as English proficiency tests (10%).)
