People on social media sites are just like anyone else...they're interested in targeted, quality content.

It's hard to get anyone to go to your site if you don't have quality content there. And if you want to get social media traffic consistently then you'll need to post about your new, quality content consistently.

That means you need to add quality targeted content on a regular consistent basis.

The easiest way to do this is with a blog but what matters the most is that you add quality content regularly and you post about your new content on multiple social media sites (more on this later).

Make Your Content Highly Shareable...

The people who see your content and the posts on social media about your content are far more likely to share it with others if it has an engaging headline and it covers a topic that's interesting to people in your niche.

Of all the things you can do creating a compelling headline (or title) for your content will have the biggest follow on impact to generating more social media traffic and more search engine traffic.

It will also increase the likelihood that visitors will read your content.

Here are some tips on writing compelling headlines or titles for your content:

• Get attention and engage your reader. You can intrigue your reader with curiosity, you can shock them with an unusual point of view or you can promise highly valuable information.

• Make sure your content delivers on the promise of the headline. It's not going to help you if you have a fantastic headline and it's totally unrelated to your content.

• Content headlines...and especially the title's of blog posts...often end up being used by Google and other search engines in their search results. Keep your headline below Google's display limit of 70 characters if you can.

Most people are not really paying attention to the social media posts they see and posting about your new content 2, 3 or even 4 times in different ways can substantially increase the traffic you generate.

Here's a simple plan for posting the same content 3 or 4 times:

• Post about your new content.

• Post about your new content the next day with a different headline and angle explaining what the content is about.

• Post about your new content the next week with a different headline and angle.

• Post about your new content the next month with a different headline and angle.

It's vital that you never share the same message twice. That will be considered spam. Always create a different headline and message for each post.

You can find different things to post about simply by going through your content and writing about something else the content covers.

There are limits. If you do announcements about content on your own site too often it may burn out the group.

If you're using other people's infographics in this way remember you have hundreds, even thousands to choose from and it pays to take the time and choose one that really targets your best prospects perfectly.

Also be aware of any call to action that might already be on the infographic. You don't want something that's so overt it drives all your best prospects away from your site!

Notice how the author has embedded an infographic on the page and above the infographic has included a few sentences of unique content. He's also added the stats in the infographic as text on the page with easy-to-tweet links linking back to the page.

This makes the page unique even though it's using someone else's infographic and it massively increases the chance that visitors will share the page on twitter.

This is a clever way to generate high quality engaging content that's search engine friendly and that has high viral value.

Offer A Gift Report, Video, Blog Post etc In Exchange For A Share Or Tweet...

You can just give away you're best content or you can make visitors do something for you to get it.

One way to dramatically increase the number of social media shares you get to your site is to put the first part of a high value blog post, report or video on your site then require visitors to share the link with someone if they want the rest of the content.

For this to work effectively the content you give away without requiring anything has to be genuinely valuable and the promise of the content to come has to be really enticing.

Remember Social Media Is Part Of Your Sales Process...

Your interactions and what people see about you, your website and your business on social media are vital to the sales process. It's not just a traffic source.

When they're making a significant purchase many people seek out a business on social media before they buy from them (they're checking out what people are saying about the business.

Some of your best customers in the future will be people you've given good advice to on social media over the course of a few days, weeks or even years.

Remember that good business is about building relationships with real live people.

People will buy from you and take your product recommendations because they trust you and your interaction with people on social media is often the first real experience they'll have with you.

What's important when you're developing your social media marketing plan is that you keep track of what's working and what isn't working.

When something is getting you good traffic do more of it and when something is getting you poor results think of changing what you do in that area or dumping the method all together.

Keep repeating and expanding on that process and after 12 months you'll be amazed at the traffic you see.
