2.0 INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT/BACKGROUND INFORMATION 2.1 Identification of Project and Project Proponent The proposed project area is found to have good deposits of Limestone (Minor). It is used in infrastructure development. 2.2 Brief Information about the Project The mining lease area of 2.128 Ha.is located in Non-forest, Government land. Open cast mining is followed and it has been proposed to produce approximately 23,750 Tons /annum of Limestone (Minor). The nearest habitation is Morjampadu Village located at a distance of 1.8 Km due North of Quarry Lease. 2.3 Need for the Project and Its Importance to the Country or Region The demand for Limestone (Minor) has increased due to rapid industrialization and growth in infrastructure. So the number of Limestone (Minor) producing quarries is increasing in India. Due to bifurcation of State, there is a huge demand for Limestone (Minor). As per EIA notification 2006 project proponent is submitting the proposal to get Environment Clearance for QL area of 2.128 Ha. from District Level Environmental Appraisal Committee/District level Impact Assessment Authority of Guntur constituted by MOEF, GOI for the purpose of operating the quarry lease for which Notification is issued. 2.4 Demands-Supply Gap There is huge demand since the material is used extensively in building construction infrastructure development. This project will help in reducing the Demand-Supply gap in the area. 2.5 Domestic/ Export Markets The material is used in the domestic market and in there is no scope for exporting the material. 2.6 Employment Generation Proposed mining is semi-mechanized method and this project operation will provide livelihood to the 25 workers. It will provide employment to the people residing in vicinity.

Kadapa Super Group

Of the above sequence, the narji limestone, attained maximum thickness and spread over large area. It has extensively found between Machavaram – Dachepally - Gurzala area. The own shale and other younger formation are exposed only in Veldurthi & Durgi area.

3.5.2 Local Geology

Narji Limestone formation of Kurnool group exposed in this area is well bedded, gray to white in colour and of flaggy to massive nature. The trend of lime beds varying considerably in this area due to structural disturbance. Fine laminae of argillaceous and silt found in limestone of this area. There are two types of limestone seen in the area 1) Siliceous Limestone 2) Argillaceous Limestone In this area siliceous limestone occupy in large area. Mostly composed of calcite with minor constituents of quartz, sericite, pyrite, anatase and goethite minerals. Structurally, Palnad limestone hosts number of faults in different direction mainly of NNW - ESE, ENE - WSW, NNE - SSW trends. Vertical joints in limestone are trending in N- S, N 20° E- S 20° W, N 60°- 80° W- S 60°- 80° E, out of these joints some are open and some are filled with calcite and quartz veins. Siliceous, flaggy lime stones are hard, compact and massive which are being mined for in these are for manufacture of slabs, which are used as flooring material in construction activity.

3.5.3 Exploration Limestone (Minor) quarries as the lease area is located on undulating land with surface relief of 6 - 10 m. The Limestone (Minor)s found to be normal in that area, the deposit is being worked out to an maximum depth of 20 m only.

3.5.4 Reserves Reserves of Limestone (Minor) are estimated by Cross Sectional Area method. One cross section was drawn in the lease area and the summary of reserves are given in the below table:

Summary of Geological Reserves A. Total Proved Geological Reserves (m3) : 617951

B. Reserves Blocked under benches (m3) : 32704

C. Reserves Blocked under 7.5m Buffer Zone (m3) : 88493

Mineable Reserves (A-(B+C)) (m3) : 496754

Average Annual Production : 23275

Life of the Mine : 496754/23275 = 21.34 Say 21 years

Considering the recovery of the Limestone (Minor) from the quarry is 95%, the 5%

will be the generated in the form of sub grade during quarry operations, which will be

stacked separately in stock yard for further sorting and sizing.

3.6 PROJECT DESCRIPTION WITH PROCESS DETAILS 3.6.1 Method of Mining

The Mosaic Chips (Limestone) in the quarry lease area is exposed on the surface with sheet. Hence, it is proposed to mine the sheet by semi-mechanized methods, by developing the benches of 6 M height with 3 M bench width. With shallow drilling and breaking with rock breakers. The development of benches in the sheet rock will be maintained @ 60° safety slopes. Therefore, mining operations are to be carried out in this area in 2 stages. 1) Development 2) Production Stage - 1 The weathered limestone will be scraped out so that the underlying fresh mineral will be exposed for quarrying.

The limestone beds exposed will be subjected to drilling and rock breakers from mother rock. Rock Splintering: The loose material will be loosened with drilling the holes with jack hammers aided with compressor or using rock breakers to separate the mass. Fragmentation the Mass: For fragmentation of the mass from mother rock, the line drilling and breaking method are in use. Stage - 2 After removal of weathered top layer The sheet will be subjected to splintered into 300 mm sized and transported to the crusher units for crushing to the sizes of 5 mm, sized chips and < 100 mesh powder. Drilling Drill holes of 1.5 - 3.0 M depth will be drilled in a staggered pattern at 3 m interval. It is proposed to produce 24,500 tonnes of limestone during next two years plan period with an average annual production of 23,275 tonnes from an area of 3266.67 M2. Benches of 6M height and 3 M will be developed during the plan period in depth of previous year workings successively. The sub grade that will be generated will be to the tune of 5% in the form of intercalated waste generated from the joint planes in the rock and dust generated during the drilling of holes.

a) Removal / Excavation of O.B. and other Quarry Waste:

5% of Waste is generated in Limestone (Minor) quarry. 3.7 Raw Material Required Along With Estimated Quantity, Likely Source,

Marketing Area of Final Product/S, Mode of Transport of Raw Material and Finished Product No raw material will be required in the proposed project. The operation involves the extraction of Limestone (Minor) and dumping in stock yard.

3.7.1 Use of Mineral

Limestone available in the area is of low grade and it is useful for burnt lime which may be issued for white wash, construction purpose and also useful for controlling pH value in Prawns tanks (Pawn culture) and fish tanks after burning. Considering the recovery of the limestone for extraction of Mosaic Chips from the quarry is 95%, the 5% will be the generated in the form of sub grade during quarry operations, which will be stacked separately in stock yard for further sorting and sizing.

3.7.2 Processing

The Limestone (Minor) produced will be stocked within the mining lease area and will be loaded in tippers and transported to the crushing plant proposed near the quarry lease area. A separate stock yard is earmarked for stacking.

3.8 Resource Optimization/ Recycling and Reuse

Not envisaged.

3.9.1 Availability of Water Its Source, Energy/ Power Requirement and Source 3.9.1 Water Requirement

Water is required only for drinking purposes, green belt and dust suppression. The number of working people is around 25, so the total water requirement will be around 2.5 KLD. This water will be supplied through tankers from nearby area.
