A young person’s comments on using the Youth Star

“I liked talking about everything, not just the problems…and how I’d like to build up my Star from twos and threes to fives...”

Training Exercise

Using the Star with service users• 1 person to be a Support Worker and 1

person to be a young person

• Support Worker to introduce the Star to the young person, and to work with them to complete a couple of scales

• Discuss the experience in pairs – as the Young Person, offer one good practice tip to the Support Worker

• Swap roles and repeat the exercise

Training Exercise

Building Consistency

• In pairs build a scenario to match the Area and Number on the card you have chosen

• Recount the scenario to the whole of the group, sharing only which Area of the Star you have

• The rest of the group will then work out the Number that you have and the stage the young person was at
