Western Center on Law and PovertyA letter to Assembly Member Shirley Weber
1. "Scientific research... demonstrated long lasting negative impacts on children who are subject to even brief episodes of poverty."
2. "The Reality is that every family in CalWORKs is living in poverty. Even CalWORKs students that are working are below the poverty level. That is because the family loses all cash assistance (and many services) when their income exceeds twice the grant level for their family plus $225. For a family of three that is a maximum of $1,545 a month"
Our CalWORKs students are all parents who are trying to make a better life for themselves, and especially their children, with very limited resources.
CalWORKS encourages faculty and staff to donate, even if it is $5, because any donation makes a tremendous impact on the CalWORKsstudent receiving that donation.

Shared the stage with legends Stevie Wonder and John Sebastian. Written and performed original scores for orchestras, documentary films and dance
projects, and Is the recipient of prestigious grants from Meet the Composer and the California
Arts Council
