Outlook Live

With Outlook Live you can email on the Web and on your mobile phone. As a Live@edu user you can use this free email service to communicate with your students and benefit from having :

Full access to your email from any web browser (IE, Safari and Firefox)

Your own mailbox with 10GB capacity with 20MB attachment

Access to your school’s Global Addrress List (GAL) as well as your own Contact list that you create, as well the ability to create new group or distribution lists.

Viewing the real-time availability of your contacts

Calendar sharing for scheduling meetings

Access to your email from your mobile device when you’re not online using a PC

Log on to Outlook Live

Open your browser and go to www.outlook.com

Enter your Outlook Live ID and password and click Sign in.

Composing a new email

To send an email, click New. A compose email message window will appear.

Enter the email address in the To field (person close to you) and in the Cc field (another person close to you)

In the Subject field, enter the subject of the message (This week’s Homework Assignment). Enter the email message text below.

Attaching an attachment to email

To attach a file click the paper clip button.

Click Browse and browse to the file to be attached.

Click Open.

The file will appear in the Attachments field of your email. You can attach multiple files to an email.

Type a message (Attached is your HW assignment) and when your email is complete, click Send.

Replying to an email

Click Inbox, click the email to reply to and it will appear in the reading pane.

The reading pane can appear to the right of the emails, at the bottom of the emails, or not be visible.

Click the Actions drop-down arrow list.

Click Reply.

Note that when replying to an email, all previous email texts will be included below your new message, however no attachments will be included.

Deleting an email

Click Inbox, click the email to delete, then click the delete button.

In the delete window click OK.

Creating a folderTo create a new folder, right-click Your Name above the inbox

Or

To create a new sub-folder, right-click on the folder in which you wish to create a new sub-folder.

Click Create New Folder. A new folder icon and field will be created.

Type a folder name into the blank field (Homework Assignment), and press Enter.

The email folder or sub-folder will now appear in your folder list.

This allows you to sort the contents of your Inbox by dragging-and-dropping all related emails to your new sub-folder.

Moving an email

Click Inbox, click the email to move.

Click the Move drop-down arrow list.

Click the name of the new folder you have just created.

Click the folder to view the email.

You can also move emails from one folder to another using drag-and-drop.

Blocking junk email*If you happen to receive Junk E-Mail

Outlook will identify and automatically sent Junk Mail to the Junk E-Mail folder

Select the Junk email from your Inbox.

Click Actions and click Junk E-mail.

Click the first option, Add Sender to Blocked Senders List.

All emails from this sender will now automatically be redirected to your Junk E-mail folder and no longer appear in your email inbox.

Creating a meeting request

Click Calendar.

Click Month to view the entire month and click the date for the meeting.

To change the month click the arrows forward or back.

Click the New drop-down arrow list.

Click Meeting Request.

Enter email addresses in the To field (person close to you) or click To and add a contacts from your Global Address List.

Enter a meeting name in the Subject field (Group Presentation).

Enter the meeting location in the Location field (Auditorium).

Enter the meeting Start Time and End Time.

Enter a reminder for the meeting. For example if you set the reminder for 1 day, you will receive a reminder 1 day before the meeting.

Click Save and Close. The meeting will now be displayed in your Calendar.

Click Contacts.

Click the New drop-down arrow list.

Click Contact.

Enter the details of the new contact, then click Save and Close.

At a minimum enter First name, Last name, and E-mail.

If you want the contact to display their First name in your contact list then enter the field Display as with the contact’s display name.

Your new contact is now displayed in the Contact List.

Click Contacts.

In the Group Name field, enter the name of your group (Class).

Click Members. You can add contacts from the Default Global Address List.

This is everyone that contains the same email address as you.

Click on a contact and then click Members.

The Members of the Group will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Repeat this steps 5 and 6 until you have all the new members to your Group.

To add the selected contacts to your group, click OK.

The members of the group will be displayed on the screen. Click Save and Close.

The group will appear in your Contacts.

The group will have an icon beside it indicating it is a group.

Accessing multiple email accounts

Click Options.

In the Account tab, go to the Other Accounts field and click New.

Enter your other email address and the password of that email account then click Next.

Outlook Live will search for your account. Once it has been found, click Finish.

The email account is now listed in the Other Accounts (except Yahoo! Mail) field.

Click the Refresh button to update the email subscription.
