With the advent of the MicroPulse Technology, we can manufacture the world’s smallest Directional Module at 16”. This allows Lodestar to drastically reduce the overall length of a traditional MWD tool.

MEMs Accelerometers (MicroElectroMechanical):Technology smiliar to what is found in your phone is now ready and rugged enough for downhole use. Taking advantage of the small size, nine MEMs accels have been installed into the system. This means that up to four accels can fail and still enable the user to accurately drill ahead.

AMR Magnetometers (Anisotropic MagnetoResistive):Incorporating AMR mags provides the same accuracy while providing a far smaller footprint and lower cost.

Power Consumption:With the low power consumption of the MEMs accels and AMR mags, there is no need for a triple power supply. A common failure point among traditional MWD systems. In addition, the battery size can be reduced due to the lower power demands.

Integration:Condensing over five circuit boards found in traditional MWD designs down to a single circuit board with built in sensors; thus reducing connection points, cost and failure nodes.

External Development: MicroPulse will allow the end-users to write their own telemetry scheme in a simple programming language which would be compiled on the desktop and loaded to the MicroPulse. The directional measurements and relevant system measurements would be available through the programming interface, allowing users to write their own telemetry and encoding algorithms.
