President’s Message Anne Boortz
Dear Members,
I hope everyone had a peaceful Easter. Thank you Paula,
for decorating our Hall in the Easter spirit. Only a few ladies
participated in the Easter parade but they all looked lovely.
We appreciate your participation.
It was with regret that I accepted Lillie Sdao’s resignation
from her kitchen volunteer jobs. I would like to take the
opportunity to thank Lillie her contributions in time, effort
and hard work to the club. Lillie, it may not always feel that way,
but we do appreciate all your hard work and thank you for all you
have done and are doing for the club. You may have noticed that our bar
went through a major ―makeover‖. Members and guests commented on
how great the bar looks. The walls are bright and clean, new shelves were
added and the glasses sparkle. The carpet was removed; new plywood was
installed and covered with attractive easy to clean tiles. Responsible for
the makeover are Bob Courtney, Gary Monroe, and our newest members
Mark Monroe and his girlfriend Angel Hornbeck. Thank you for all the
hours you spent making our bar look warm and welcoming. Our
appreciation and gratitude to Marga and Bob Courtney who also paid
for the materials needed for the ―make-over‖, including the new shelves
and glasses. Thank you Marga, who as a volunteer, quenches our thirst,
keeps the bar clean and the glasses sparkling.
When helping to clean the back hall I swept up a lot of dead cockroaches.
I am not fond of the little critters, but if I have to meet them, I prefer them
dead. To James Beucher, all of us who hate bugs thank you for being so
diligent in keeping our club bug-free. It would be nice to see you and
Janice in the club.
The Oktoberfest is approaching fast and several members already offered
their help. Thank you. We will announce the upcoming Oktoberfest
meeting as soon as it is scheduled.Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers
among us.Hope to see you at the Membership Meeting, Thursday,
May 1, 2014 at 7:30 pm.
Let us treat each other with kindness and respect.

Easter Parade and the display of Bonnets
Was read by Lillie Sdao at the March 2014 General Meeting.
Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is enjoying their evening tonight. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Lillie. I am one of the volun-
teers here at the club and wanted to talk to you all a little bit tonight about what we do here as a volunteer for our beautiful club. We
are hoping that a few more volunteers might come forward tonight and want to join our small group of regulars. This would be much
appreciated and it would give the regulars a little more free time to also enjoy the music and sit with friends and family too.
A lot of you may see me and a few other people running around here during the week and just about every Saturday, doing a variety
of tasks. Some of you may even think that we are the managers of the club, but that is not so. We ladies just step up and do what
needs to be done to keep our club running, so we can keep the doors open. Our club continues to prosper because of the continued
support and hard work of our volunteers each and every week.
Some of the tasks I volunteer for range from working behind the order counter to working in the kitchen; making apple strudels, pre-
paring the food to be cooked by the chef, peeling potatoes or just washing dishes. I run to the store to purchase food when our kitch-
en gets low on items. I also love to sew, so when we have items that need mending like the table cloths or curtains, I will take them
home and fix them. I have also taken the chairs home and reupholstered them when they were getting worn. There are many women
that volunteer to bake cakes for the club also. It would be so nice if each table volunteered to bring a cake in during the month.
Every Tuesday morning, a few of us come in to clean the club. It only takes a couple of hours and it’s done. All of the tables and
chairs get wiped down and everything is reset for the following Saturday for all of our members and guests to come and enjoy an-
other fun night of great food, music, dancing and spending time with good friends.
If you know how to bake, sew, cook, clean, have handyman skills to fix things when they break down or stand behind the counter
with a friendly smile and take food orders…… why not come and hang out with friends and see how rewarding it is to know you are
part of a great group of people working together to keep our wonderful German Club open for all to enjoy! My heartfelt thanks go
out to all those club members and non-club members that have given or continue to give your time so freely to help out.
Sincerely,
Lillie Strauss-Sdao

Hello Members and Friends.
Another month has gone by fast . Anna Pfister has gone back to the Hospital. I have called her husband
Adam and he left me a message that she was doing ok according to the circumstances. I also made contact
With the Rehab Center where Wendell Hellebrand is living now and was informed , that he has his good and
bad days. Almira Gebbeken needs all our prayers and good wishes. I am glad both , she and Horst are
Coming to the club as often as possible. I have visited Helmut Beck and I have to say , he looks good. Lost
some weight and the color in his face is just like before. Keep it up Helmut and a ―thank you ― to Regina
For taking so good care of him. I have spoken with Wilma Haberl again and she informed me that she had
A slight setback , yet all is well and that she and her husband Helmut have moved to their house in Sun City.
I am wishing all the other members who are in need of a cheer , best wishes and prayers for all of you.
