Vijayalakshmi Date: 21 st September, 2013 Title: Test UR IQ (Aptitude test) Venue: St. Josephs Hall, 5 th Floor Target Group: All the under graduate students of the college No. of Participants: 80 teams of various streams consisting of almost 240 students. Resource Person & Organization: Department of Mathematics & Statistics Faculty and B.Sc Final year students. Objective: student lateral thinking, logic, arithmetic, analytical, critical reasoning and keen observation are tested About the Activity (few lines): The Quiz competition was conducted in two phases. Phase- I- Written Examination where 30 Questions based on aptitude & arithmetic and logic and reasoning were given for 30 minutes. Phase-II - Six teams out of 80 teams were selected for final round which comprised of seven rounds with a vast variation in rounds where the student logical, reasoning, observation, memory and imagination skills are tested. Feedback (if any): The entire event received a massive response and went on smoothly & very successfully.The students expressed their utmost satisfaction on the variation of questions in the written round which opened their minds to think laterally. Thefinalists shared their satisfaction with the department which they experienced in facing the various rounds in the final round which paved a wayfor out of box thinking.Students gave good response on written examination.

To introduce basic concepts of Mathematics to students. To enhance the arithmetic abilities of the students through various shortcut methods. To create a confidence among the students to face various entrance exams like, ICET, CAT, and MAT etc. To make the students competent enough to face all competitive exams like, BANK, LIC, GROUPS etc.

At the end of the course, the participants will be able to gradually master many areas of Arithmetic.

About the Activity (few lines): An overview session on the “Numerical Ability” certificate course was conduction 16.09.2013 in collaborationwith Click Institute. The certificate course exam was conducted on 20th of September; about 75 students of various streams have attended theexamination. The certificate course examination papers are evaluated by the faculty.

Feedback (if any): 1. Students felt that the course was very useful for placements and for various entrance examinations.2. Students requested to conduct the course in a continued stretch in convenient timings for them so that they could be benefited to a

maximum extent.

Other related Activities:1. Conduct the departmental meeting on 12th September discussed about the academics.2. Conducted Student seminars for B. Sc II year topics on Abstract Algebra on 26th to 30th September organized by Ho D and Department of

the faculty.
