(1) Evaluating Internet Resources: Most of what is posted on the Internet has never been subjected to the rigors of peer review common with many traditional publications. Students must learn to evaluate the reliability of information of the websites they visit.

Select two websites that provide information about a topic related to your curriculum. Cite the URLs and names of both sites and explain which is more reliable using evaluation criteria.

1.SCSBOA- is a great web cite for Band directors it stands for Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association. Its a great source of in formation for music directors. It includes dates of many music festival ns different honor groups for you students to attend. It also includes Music Education resources. For Band and Orchestra. Also It includes job listing for music directors.http://scsboa.org/

2. MENC. Its great web cite for music teachers. It’s the web cite for the National Association for Music Educators Includes the same as the SCSBOA web cite but it includes more resources for music teachers. This is the association that fights for the arts in the capital to make sure that all students have music as one of their electives in their school. Between these two webs cites the MENC is a better web cite. The information is more reliable than the other. It even includes information about starting a mariachi in your school. http://www.menc.org/

(2) Research with Electronic References: Since we live in the Information Age, it is particularly important that teachers are able to access and evaluate information to prepare accurate, up-to-date lessons, and to teach their students the principles of electronic research. In this activity you will examine a variety of electronic references in your quest to acquire information for lessons or other professional activities.

Identify two topics to research using electronic references (broadcast news, almanacs, quotations, etc.). Research the first topic using at least one resource from each of five categories of electronic resources. Repeat the process with the second topic, using references from five additional categories. Include the URL, name of the resource, key information acquired, and a screen capture from each resource. (See examples of research ideas).

Identify the special features (e.g. hypertext linking of terms, Boolean search capabilities, archival search, knowledge tree, downloadable movies, online audio transcripts, animations, translations, reference lists, printer-friendly output, multimedia links, PDA or bookreader download, visible directory structure, etc.) of each of the reference tools you have used.

List criteria for determining the authenticity of information on a website.

Compare and contrast electronic references with their traditional paper counterparts. Discuss at least ten tasks or features that are possible with electronic resources that are not possible with traditional paper resources.

Develop a lesson plan that incorporates electronic references. Your lesson plan should require students to use two or more electronic references to address a specific curricular objective.

Lesson Plan

Beethoven's Compositions

Song: "Beethoven’s Symphony Number 9"Concept to Teach: Texture in artworks

Concept: Students will see a difference in actual texture in two paintings. They will also experience this difference in texture in music to reinforce their understanding. They will use at least two of electronic references to understand the concepts of the lesson

Objectives: The students will:

1.Look at an oil painting and notice how the actual texture is thick compared to a watercolor painting. They will go on the computer to find this pictures using. 2.Listen to portions of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with thick and thin texture. They Also look at the music score using the book they are going to research only. 3.Experience texture in two different forms.

Materials:

1.Computers to find the watercolor or similar painting 2.Internet access to find An artwork with thick texture oil painting with the paint applied thickly to create texture 3. Library card to find the recording and score of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony or some other music that will contains both thick and thin texture

Preliminary Procedures:

The teacher will have already discussed simulated texture in artworks (detail which makes the artwork look real, provides depth, or three-dimensionality. Now, introduce the concept of actual texture in artworks; texture that is real and stands out on the page physically.

Procedures:

1.Provide the students with the two paintings and have them find it online for them to get a good look at the differences in texture. Tell students that one has thick and the other has thin texture. Ask them which they think has each. 2.Once they see the differences in texture, their understanding can be enhanced by listening to different textures in music. 3.Ask students to listen carefully to the music and ask them what they notice when you play the first piece that has thin texture. 4.Then play the musical piece that has thick texture and ask what the difference is. 5 .Finish up by returning to the paintings and ask students again which has thick and which has thin texture.

Evaluation:

Students are able to identify which painting has the thick and which has the thin texture after listening to the music. They will also be able to describe why the one painting has thicker texture. They will also show me that they where able to find this with the electric resources.

Follow-up:A follow-up activity would be to present other paintings and music and ask students to identify what has thick and what has thin textures.

Teaching of a Musical Element:

The musical element that I would teach would be texture. I would teach it in the same way as I had for art, except reversed. I would introduce the music first and have the artworks to enforce the musical texture.

(3) Educational Research: Teachers should be familiar with research related to the teaching of their discipline. The Educational Research Database (ERIC) provides access to abstracts from numerous educational publications, and is the best place to start when conducting educational research.

Find two or more abstracts of recent, relevant articles related to the use of technology in the teaching of your subject. Summarize implications for the teaching of your subject. Cite the articles using APA format., and include the text of the abstracts.

Title: Beyond Beethoven and the Boyz: Women's Music in Relation to History and CultureAuthors: Scott, Britain; Harrassowitz, Christiane

Abstract: he typical music history or appreciation class teaches students to analyze musical elements and think generally about the aesthetics of historical periods but rarely encourages them to consider why the overwhelming majority of the composers discussed are white, European, middle- and upper-class men. Courses on popular music often discuss jazz and rock without addressing issues such as the barriers women jazz instrumentalists faced and the sexual objectification of women rock artists. Gender-blind world music curricula may also overlook the tremendously important role music plays in women's everyday lives, particularly when those women live in cultures where their voices are otherwise silenced. When women are integrated into the curriculum, they have the opportunity not only to add their names to the existing canon, but also to help students engage in critical thinking about how music is related to issues of sexism (and racism, classism, and ethnocentrism) within and outside the field, across cultures, and

over time. The National Standards for Music Education, adopted in 1994, serves as the basis for most state-level K-12 music curriculum goals.

(4) Online Academic Journals: A growing number of academic journals are available online, some of which are free, and others of which require a subscription.

Find an electronic journal related to your subject and include a screen capture of a relevant article. Briefly summarize the article.

Administrators should be familiar with the legal code as it pertains to education. Research a legal case relevant to education in secondary schools and include a screen capture from this case. Briefly summarize the case. *PTP-tip The PTP requires that "Candidates for a Teaching Credential understand and honor legal and professional obligations to protect the privacy, health, and safety of students, families, and other school professionals. They are aware of and act in accordance with ethical considerations and they model ethical behaviors for students. Candidates understand and honor all laws relating to professional misconduct and moral fitness." You may wish to cite relevant laws or cases as an aspect of an artifact for TPE 12.

(5) Locating multimedia teaching resources: At many libraries, teachers can obtain cards which give them special privileges as educators, including the ability to check our more resources and keep them longer. Teachers can check out books, CDs, DVDs and and videos.

Find a video related to the teaching of your course in the Los Angeles Public Library System (or other public library system), CSUN main library, or the CSUN Teacher Curriculum Center. Describe the video resource and its call number, and if possible, find a teacher study guide for the video by performing an Internet search.

Call Number:10323

This a video for all first year teachers to help them hoe to teach their subject.
