6. Conclusion: End the call

1. Connect:

“Good evening, is Joe there?

Hi Joe, I’m John from Dial-a-Prayer. You left a request for someone to call you for special prayer.”

Variations:

1. No answer: Don’t leave a message on the answering service. Note the time, and try again later.

2. Someone answers, “Joe is NOT home, can he call you back later?”Your Response: “Do you know when he will be home? I’ll call him back later.”

3. Someone else answers the phone: They ask, “Can I say who is calling?”Your Response: “Yes, tell him John is returning his call.”

2. Convenience:

As a courtesy, check with Joe if you have called at a convenient time for him. Say something like this:

“Joe, is this a convenient time for me to call? I can call back later if that suites you better!”

Once Joe is comfortable with the timing, proceed.

Variations:

Either it is a convenient time or it isn’t.

1. If it is NOT a convenient time, arrange a convenient one.

2. If it IS convenient, then proceed.

3. Joe asks: “How long will we be?”

Your Response: “Usually the prayer is only for a minute or so.”

Provide the opportunity now for Joe to share.

“Joe, before I pray would you like to share briefly what you want me to pray about?”

Joe shares briefly, and then you proceed.

Variations:

Joe says NO, he does not want to share.

Your Response: “That’s fine, are you happy for me to have a short prayer for your now?” YES – proceed. NO – Conclude.

4. Concern:

Joe shares BRIEFLY - Listen for Need - Make Notes

Variations:

Joes starts to share in detail: (More than couple of minutes)Your Response: “Joe, the heart of your concern seems to be worry about XXX. Are you happy for me to pray about that?” Then proceed to pray.

If Joe’s sharing is NOT BRIEF, you need to intervene and keep the call focused.

Pray for Joe and the concern.

Characteristics :1. Natural, friendly and confident.2. Personal and specific to Joe.3. Specific to Joe’s concern.4. Claim a Bible Promise.5. Reassuring of God’s love and concern.6. Pray for the best outcome.7. According to God’s will.

6. Conclusion: Now bring the call to a close. - Follow up calls may spend more time chatting.

To end:

“Joe it has been a pleasure to meet you like this, and pray for you. Joe, you are special to God and He cares about you.

I am going to continue to pray for you.

God bless you, and if you would like me to call again to pray for you, then just call the Dial-a-Prayer number, and you will be put through to me.”

1. Transfer notes to CALL RECORD SHEET.

2. Pray for guidance.

3. Fill in the assessment “N, C, G or F”.

4. If “Follow up”, transfer details to PRAYER JOURNAL PAGE, and schedule when to call back.

Note:In your devotional prayer time, you bring these names on this sheet to God in prayer.
