RE: TB GETZ REPLACEMENT OF ETACS Hyundai Motor Company in Korea has advised, there is a possibility that some Getz vehicles may be affected by erratic operation of the rear screen demister. A fault may occur with the rear screen demister turning off within 20 minutes of the rear screen demister switch being turned on. We have implemented a service campaign to inspect and were necessary replace the ETACS Unit. We have stock of ETACS units for the campaign; these have been supplied by Hyundai Motor Company and are at no charge. For the purpose of auditing and managing the ETACS part stock for this campaign the part number to order is: 95400-1C200C. This part should only be ordered for vehicles that are included in this campaign, and will charged at $0.01. All the removed ETACS units are to be labelled correctly and returned to HANZ National Service Department, as these are to be returned to HMC. We will be checking each submitted Campaign Claim and the claim will only be accepted on receipt of the removed ETACS unit. Please ensure the removed ETACS unit is affected by this campaign and simply not just replaced as a matter of course, refer to the detailed instruction in the TSB. The full range of vehicles affected is attached, as is a list of vehicle and their owners’ details of vehicles registered in your area. There are a number of vehicles in dealer stock, please be proactive and carry out the service campaign on these vehicles before they are sold or delivered to your customer. In the past dealers have been slow to address stock vehicles and customers have been inconvenienced by having to return their vehicle shortly after delivery. Lets be professional and complete this campaign on these vehicles immediately. Attached is a copy of the letter sent to customers, requesting them to contact their local dealership to have the remedial repairs carried out. The letter will be posted to the customer on 1st September 2004. The Technical Service Bulletin from Hyundai Motor Company provides the working details of the repair methods; please ensure your technicians are conversant with the details.

The service campaign will have an identifier reference number 4D, first place the Service Campaign Identifier Label to the vehicle as shown below and then stamp the reference number 4D; this will avoid distortion to the label when punched. We have given the Identifier Label a Part Number (55555 – SCIP) this way we are able to keep account of stock levels. When ordering the parts for this campaign please at the same time order the Identifier Label.

To correct the situation and to ensure there is no possibility of the above condition occurring, Hyundai are taking a proactive stance of replacing the ETACS (Electronic Time & Alarm Control System) module. We would like to complete the replacement of the ETACS as soon as possible. We ask that you contact the Service Department of your local Hyundai Dealer to arrange a suitable time to book your car in for them to carry the remedial work, which will take approximately one hour. Hyundai will meet the cost of this operation. 1. DESCRIPTION

Some 2004-2005 GETZ (TB) vehicles with improperly manufactured ETACS (Electronic Time and Alarm Control System) experience the following condition :

The rear glass defogging switch and indicator may go off after 20 minutes following an initial starting.

Replace ETACS and register the keyless entry transmitter using the Hi-Scan Pro by following service procedure below.

4. SERVICE PROCEDURE

Verify the vehicle is affected by inspecting the vehicle production date and VIN. 4-1. ETACS INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT ■ For LHD(Left-hand Drive) and RHD(Right-hand Drive) models 1) Park the vehicle on a level surface by

engaging the parking brake fully. 2) Turn the ignition key to the off position.

3) Remove the fuse box cover.

4) Loosen the lower crash pad panel mounting bolt and tapping screws.

5) Separate the left side of the lower crash pad panel by releasing the fastening clips as shown. CAUTION Be careful not to damage the clips on both left and right sides.

6) Remove the lower crash pad panel and lay it on the floor mat as shown in the photo. .

7) Disconnect the DLC connector from the hood release handle.

8) Disconnect the hood cable connected to the hood release handle.

9) Remove the hood cable end from the hood release handle and then remove the lower crash pad completely.

10) Remove the relay installed to the steering column right side.

Then remove the ETACS from the steering column.

CAUTION Use caution not to cut fingers by the bracket and the adjacent parts due to narrow working space.

11) Turn the ETACS mounting nuts to the bracket once using a spanner and then remove the nuts with hand. CAUTION For the upper nut, use the socket after using a spanner for easier removal.

12) Disconnect the ETACS connector. 13) Check the ETACS production lot No. marked

on the label to determine the replacement of ETACS. If the lot No. reading is affected (O043 ~ R046), replace the ETACS with a new one.

NOTE Use the same part number ETACS.

If the lot No. is not affected, reinstall all removed components and finish the service.

14) Reinstallation is the reverse order of the

removal.

CAUTION When reinstalling the ETACS and the relay, insert them into the fixing groove of the bracket temporarily. Then install them completely.

4-2. KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE SAVING METHOD (IF INSTALLED)

1) Insert the system software card into the Hi-Scan Pro top slot. Connect the DLC (Date Link Connetor) cable to the keyless adapter.

Then connect the 10 pin connector of the keyless adaptor to the vehicle multi purpose connector.

2) Turn the ignition key on and then turn the Hi-Scan Pro on.

3) Select the model and then select the “07. TRANSMITTER CODE SAVING” and press ENTER.

4) Follow steps 1 to 3 according to the message shown in the Hi-Scan Pro screen to complete the transmitter code saving.

5) Check the keyless entry system for proper operation by pressing the “Lock” and “Unlock” buttons in the transmitter.
