Indices trimmed early gains amidst robust turnover level where the All Share

Price Index gained 10.2 points (+0.2%) to 6,477.5 while the S&P SL20 index

closed with a marginal gain at 3,610.7 points (+0.1%). Turnover stood at

LKR1,385.2 mn (USD10,631.3k) vs the 12 month daily average turnover of

LKR845.0 mn (USD6,485.5k) while 142,749.4k shares were traded for the day

vs the 12 month average daily volume of 42,340.5k. A net foreign outflow was

recorded where foreign purchases stood at LKR150.3 mn (USD1,153.9k) whilst

foreign sales were LKR255.1 mn (USD1,957.7.k). Top traded counters were

Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings LKR198.4 mn (USD1,522.8k, +3.8%), Diesel &

Motor Engineering LKR93.1 mn (USD714.5k, +2.2%), CIC Holdings LKR80.9

mn (USD621.6k, +6.5%), John Keells Holdings LKR77.2 mn (USD592.3k,

+0.9%) and Sunshine Holdings LKR67.3 mn (USD516.3k, +1.5%).

The market continued to record robust turnover amidst renewed interest in

selected counters while crossings contributed near 27%. Aitken Spence Hotel

Holdings spearheaded the turnover amidst renewed foreign and local

participation as c.2.2 mn shares were crossed off at prices of LKR77.0 and

LKR79.0. Several on board blocks were witnessed while a c.95k share block

traded at a new 52-week high price of LKR80.0. Diesel & Motor Engineering

gathered renewed local institutional activity led by a crossing of 150k shares

which was transacted at prices of LKR525.0 and LKR530.0. Diversified players

continued to be investor favourites as CIC Holdings, John Keells Holdings

and Sunshine Holdings were among the top traded counters. CIC Holdings

saw an off-board block of 1 mn shares at LKR62.5 led by renewed foreign

interest while its price touched a 52-week high of LKR65.0. Further, John

Keells Holdings also gathered foreign buying as it recorded a crossing of

c.159k shares at LKR225.0. Sunshine Holdings encountered a crossing of 2

mn shares at LKR32.0 led by interest from the local investor fraternity.

Meanwhile Commercial Bank added 142.5k shares to the crossings board at

LKR141.5 amidst foreign buying.

The trading session saw active local investor participation on Adam

Investments and its related companies, PCH Holdings and PC Pharma. PCH

Holdings traded at a 52-week high of LKR3.1 while c.22 mn shares changed

hands on board. PC Pharma saw 21.7 mn shares being traded for the day. The

banking sector continued its rally as several counters continued trading at 52-

week high levels including Sampath Bank, Hatton National Bank, Nations

Trust Bank, Trade Finance and Investments and Seylan Bank (Non-Voting).

Sri Lanka to sell fly ash from new coal plants to five firms 04 Jul, 2014 11:18:16

July 4, 2014 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's state-run power utility will sell fly ash from two 300MegaWall coal power plants to five companies with Fuji Cement Lanka to get the bulk of it, a minister said. Information minister Keheliya Rambukwelle said each plant is expected to generate 75,000 tonnes of fly ash a year.

Fly ash can be used to produce several goods including a type of extra-strong cement.

Fuji Cement Company (Lanka) Ltd, a part of the listed Tokyo Cement group will get an opportunity to buy 67,350 tonnes, Fine Ash (Pvt) Ltd 26,940, Sigiri Roofings (Pvt) Ltd 10,776, Ceylon and Foreign Trades 26,940, Holcim (Lanka) Ltd 17,960.

Initially eight companies had responded to the offer to sell fly ash with the highest bidder coming in at 3,500 rupees a tonne.

The procurement committee had inquired from bidder whether they would be willing to pay 3,500 rupees and five of the eight had agreed to the offer.

July 04 2014 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's state-run Bank of Ceylon is planning to 8.0 billion rupees of debt which has been given an expected rating 'AA(lka) (EXP)' Fitch Ratings said. The Colombo-listed debentures will have tenors of 5 and 8 years and will have fixed and floating coupons.

It will be used for Tier II capital.
