CDMA2000 at 450 MHz Opens New Market Opportunities for CDMA Industry

In the last two years, CDMA2000has established itself as a major player in the 450 MHz bandmarket and interest from regulators and operators around the world is increasing.CDMA450 offers a solution for multiple markets, including evolution of existing NMT-450 analogsystems to IMT-2000 and universal access to voice and broadband services, especially indeveloping countries.

Advantages of CDMA450 derive from the spectral efficiency and high-speed data capabilities ofCDMA2000 and the expanded coverage afforded by a lower frequency band, which translate to3G services and low deployment cost.

CDMA450 was first commercially deployed by Telemobil in Romania over two years ago.Today, there are seven commercial networks and two trials. Eight operators expect to launch in2004.

Multiple infrastructure and device solutions for CDMA450 are commercially available: manyleading equipment vendors offer network equipment for both CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO at450 MHz, and ten handset manufacturers offer phones and data cards.

CDMA2000 Enterprise Services Facilitate Productive Mobile Workers

High-speed data services and applications on CDMA2000 networks are taking off around theworld. In addition to consumer-geared applications, such as games, ringtones and musicdownloads, CDMA2000 is also a premier platform for enterprise services. The inherent high-speed data capabilities and security aspects of CDMA2000 make it an ideal technology forworkers to stay connected while mobile. Gaining access to email, the Internet and corporateIntranets via handsets or laptops equipped with modem cards are key drivers for companieslooking to take advantage of mobile high-speed data services. Push-to-talk and picture or videotaking and sending also have useful applications in the enterprise sector.

Wireless high-speed data services offer opportunities across both horizontal and vertical

markets. Horizontal segments include field sales, field services and mobile office workers whocan benefit from the anytime, anywhere access to mobile data. Some specific industries whichare already making use of wireless data are public safety, insurance, healthcare andpharmaceutical.

Many CDMA2000 operators offer a wide range of services for the enterprise sector. Examplesof successful applications include:

Bell Mobility offers custom solutions for Otis Elevator Co., Nestle Canada, and others usingits CDMA2000 1X network for access to information on-the go, faster customer service andincreased productivity

Verizon Wireless 1X network is enabling insurance company Ohio Casualty Group to speedthe claim adjustment process by one-and-a-half to two days
