Goals of the Instrumental Program

To provide musical development. To provide ensemble experience. To provide an extra dimension to the school music

program. To develop the habit of regular practice. To develop the concept of team spirit and that

music is for enjoyment. To encourage creativity. To provide students with lifetime skills.

How does it work

We offer students a 30 minute group lesson per week.

Groups are between 3 – 10 students. Lessons are held on one day per week, and use a

rotating timetable. All beginners are offered a school instrument to

use in their first year.

Expectations of the StudentI will

care for and maintain my instrumentattend all lessons for a minimum of one yearpractice at least 15 mins (beginners) and 30 mins (2nd yr and above) per day, 5 days a weekbring all my equipment (tutor book, music folder and instrument), and arrive on time, to all lessons and rehearsalsbecome a member of the Concert Band or String Ensemble when I have reached the required standardattend all Concert Band/String Ensemble rehearsal, performances, concerts & campsIn exceptional circumstances where your child is unable to attend a performance you must notify the conductor ASAP via written note as the conductor will have to rearrange seating plans and parts to balance the ensemble

Expectations of the Parents

I will show an interest in, support & encourage my child’s instrumental progressprovide a suitable time and place for my child to practicesupervise and encourage regular, good practice habits and sign my child’s practice record chart each weekpay all music fees associated with participation in the program on timesupply instrument accessories such as a music stand for practice, tutor book, reeds, strings, shoulder rests, etc. by the first week of school for my child to commence lessons, and replace these as needed.

Expectations of the Parents – cont. keep the instrument in good repair and provide my child with a safe

place to keep it return any instrument in need of repair to the school immediately report to the school any loss or damage of the instrument

on loan accept financial responsibility for loss of or damage to the instrument

while on loan from the school buy my child his/her own instrument after the initial loan period of one

year (except for large, expensive instruments) ensure that my child attends all lessons, rehearsals, performances,

concerts and camps. provide my child with the correct performance uniform for Concert

Band and String Ensemble.
