SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD

Getting ready for school

Starting school is a BIG step for your child. Here are some easy ways you can prepare them over the holidays:● Writing their name● Getting dressed independently● Practising packing and carrying their

school bag● Eating from their lunch box (e.g.

opening and closing tubs)● Tying or fastening shoelaces● Putting on sunscreen● Packing away toys

Helpful hints● Talk freely and naturally to your child about

school. Encourage them to ask questions and voice concerns, but model positive thinking

● Give your child a chance to settle into their new school environment - big changes take time!

● Don’t worry if your child comes home exhausted or emotional - they have had a HUGE day at school and home is their place to let go and relax

● After school, consider the questions you are asking your child. E.g. ‘What was your favourite part of today?’ - keep this positive!

Statewide Transition Day

● Tuesday 7th December● 9.30am-12:00pm● Students will meet their 2022 classmates,

their teacher and their buddy● Sessions will be held in their 2022

classrooms● Students are not required to wear uniform

but will need to bring a packed lunch, snack, drink bottle and hat

● This can be an exciting and emotional time, thank you in advance for your support in building your child’s independence.

Take home packs● Countdown to school calendar● Fine motor tips● Name writing tag● Class photo● Preparing for school information● My New School social story● Number line/alphabet strip
