This guide will show you how to disassemble the iPad 4 mobile tablet, assisting in making the repair of the device both simple and inexpensive. Following the steps we have provided should help you quickly, and safely, replace not only a broken display, but also other internal components that may have become damaged.

• Before starting to disassemble the iPad 4, we needto bring to your attention an area where the needfor extreme caution is necessary to preventirreversible damage.

• On the left side of the tablet, approximately 2 inchesfrom the bottom, is the touch screen digitizer ribboncable. When you are separating the touch screenfrom the bezel with the plastic opening tool below inStep Three, make sure to avoid using excessiveforce on that part of the tablet.

• Utilizing the heat gun or blow dryer, commence heating the outer edges of the tablet to soften the adhesive that is securing the front panel to the unit. Normally 1-2 minutes will suffice.

• Using the plastic opening tool, begin to createseparation between the trim bezel and the touchscreen digitizer.

• Start sliding the opening tool around thedisplay assembly to release the adhesivearound the entire tablet.

• The support of the heat gun or blow dryer might beneeded to continue softening the adhesive whileworking all the way around the touch screendigitizer.

• When the adhesive has been released all the wayaround the tablet, rotate the touch screen awayfrom the base. This will be similar to opening abook. Make sure you are mindful of the ribboncable in the bottom left corner.

• Locate and remove the four small Phillips screws(#00) that secure the LCD screen to the base.

• Raise and rotate the LCD screen out of the base the same way as you did the touch screen digitizer. You can then rest the LCD screen on top of the digitizer.

• The LCD screen ribbon cable is held in place with a FPC style connector that has a locking tab. Unlock this tab before trying to unplug the ribbon cable.

• The lock is the tab on the opposite side of wherethe cable is inserted. Utilizing the spudger, flip thetab up 90 degrees to release the ribbon cable.

• Once the locking tab is flipped upward 90 degrees,slide the ribbon cable out from its connector. Thiswill allow you to remove the LCD screen from theiPad 4.

• The touch screen digitizer ribbon cable is held inplace with the same locking style connectors as theLCD screen (see previous step). You need to unlockthese tabs before attempting to unplug the ribboncables.

• When the locking tabs are flipped upward 90degrees, slide the ribbon cables out from theirconnectors.

• The home button ribbon cable is attached by asmaller version of the same locking sockets; do notforget to unlock the tabs. Unplug the small cablebefore removing the touch screen.

• Using the heat gun or blow dryer, heat the area of thehome button to soften the adhesive that secures thehome button to the touch screen digitizer. Normally1-2 minutes will suffice.

• Utilizing the plastic opening tool, separate thehome button assembly from the touch screendigitizer. The most efficient way to do this is bysliding the plastic opening tool under theassembly and prying up gently. This needs to bedone on both sides of the assembly.

• You can now remove the home button assemblyfrom the touch screen digitizer.

• Continuing with the plastic opening tool, slide it underneath the home button retainer to release the adhesive carefully.

• You can now remove the home button from thetouch screen digitizer.

• Using the spudger, unplug the push style plug for thecamera by lifting it up and out of its socket.

• Still working with the spudger, pry the camera out ofits socket/housing and remove it from the iPad 4.

• Slide the spudger under the plastic spacer located by the Wi-Fi antenna and lightening connector cable. Separate the spacer from the adhesive that is keeping it secured to the iPad 4.

• Utilizing the spudger, pry up gently on the dockconnector cable to release it from its push styleplug socket.

• You can now remove the spacer from the iPad 4.

• Locate and remove the two small Phillips screws(#00) that secure the lightening port/connector intothe iPad 4.

• Using the spudger, pry the connectors for thespeaker and Wi-Fi antenna from their sockets.

• Locate and remove the four small Phillips screws(#00) that secure the Wi-Fi antenna into the iPad 4.

• You can now remove the lightening port/connectorfrom the iPad 4.

• Continuing with the spudger, release the Wi-Fiantenna from the speaker below it.

• You can now separate the speaker and Wi-Fi cablesfrom each other to remove the Wi-Fi antenna fromthe iPad 4.

• The headphone jack ribbon cable is held in place bylocking style connectors that have been usedthroughout the iPad 4 build. Make sure you unlockthese tabs before unplugging the ribbon cable.

When the locking tab is flipped upward 90 degrees, slide the ribbon cable out from its connector.

• The microphone cable has a comparable lockingtab securing the ribbon cable into its socket. Withthe spudger, flip the lock and slide the ribbon cableout from its connector.

• The volume button ribbon cable also has a similarlocking tab to the microphone; so again, with thespudger, flip the lock and slide the ribbon cable outfrom the connector.

• Locate and remove the nine small Phillips screws(#00) that secure the headphone jack assemblyinto the iPad 4.

• You can now remove the headphone jackassembly from the iPad 4.

• The connector for the rear-facing camera islocated on the headphone jack assembly thatwas removed in the previous steps. Using thespudger, pry the connector for the rear-facingcamera up from its socket. This will allow you toremove the rear-facing camera from theheadphone jack assembly.

• Locate and remove the five small Phillipsscrews (#00) that secure the power and volumebutton ribbon cable assembly into the iPad 4.

• Locate and remove the one small Phillips screw(#00) that secures the volume button into the iPad 4.

• Now remove the plastic cover securing theribbon wire.

• Working with the spudger, maneuver the cable forthe power and volume button assembly away fromthe iPad 4.

• Locate and remove the four small Phillips screws(#00) that secure the motherboard assembly intothe iPad 4. Once the screws have been removed,separate the motherboard assembly from the iPad 4.

• Slide the spudger or metal opening tool under thebattery to begin separating the battery from themetal case of the iPad 4. The adhesive is verystrong so be sure to take your time during this step.

• Once you have worked your way all the way acrossthe bottom of the battery and separated theadhesive, remove the battery from the iPad 4.

• You can now remove the power and volume buttonassembly from the iPad 4.
