Entry requirements Students pass an entrance exam for the Faculty of Graphic Arts.

Final requirements Students competently apply graphic design skills at a basic level. Students can skillfully apply classical and contemporary techniques used in basic creative

graphic design. Students are prepared for further specialisation studies. Students complete the coursework and assignments. Students present their artworks during a public panel review at the end of the first year.

Assessment criteria Active participation in classes. The technical quality and skills involved in the creation of end-of-term assignments. Individual commitment to completing course activities and assignments. Active participation in mid-term and end-of-term critiques. Students’ overall work is assessed during an end-of-year panel review.

Course validation (at the end of the first year)The artistic quality of a series of artworks and the skills involved in creating them are assessed during the first and second term of studies during a presentation for the Faculty Examining Committee, which is set up by the Dean. A positive assessment leads to validation of the first and second term of studies and consequently the entire year.

Course aims To learn about the classical techniques of graphic design in their basic form. To present the students’ technical and artistic graphic design skills. To develop the students’ artistic skills and prepare them to make an informed choice about any

future specialisation. To consciously apply artistic means in order to achieve intended results. To develop the ability to observe nature, which should consequently lead to skillfully capturing

reality with the language of art. To shape observed reality in an individual manner by expressing it in an abstract or imaginary

manner and by solving problems linked to artistic means.2

applying graphic design skills. Students are capable of artistic expression through graphic techniques. Students can skillfully apply traditional graphic design skills. Students develop their creative capacities by consciously combining traditional skills and

possibilities offered by the technology of digital printing. Students prepare and publicly defend both their Master’s degree thesis and artwork.

Assessment criteria Active participation in classes. Technical quality and skills involved in the creation of end-of-term assignments. Individual commitment to completing course assignments and activities. Active participation in mid-term and end-of-term critiques. Overall work assessed during an end-of-year panel review.

The Master’s degree: Students select a theme for their Master’s degree work; the choice has to be confirmed after consultation. Students work on the project by means of individual corrections. In order to obtain a Master’s degree students on the course have to present a series of posters devoted to the chosen subject and publicly defend their artwork before a committee panel review composed of professors and students at the faculty.

The Master’s degree thesis and artworkThe artistic value and the content of the Master’s degree are assessed during a public presentation and defence of the thesis and artwork in the presence of thesis supervisors. The assessment is carried out by the Faculty Degree-Awarding Committee following a public presentation, discussion, the reading of the review and a secret ballot. A positive assessment leads to awarding students a degree of Master of Fine Arts with a specialisation in printmaking.

Course aims The course’s aim is to train an independent and creative printmaker, a responsible and versatile artist who skillfully functions in the contemporary world. It applies both to skills and theoretical knowledge. The course has the following specific aims:

1. To develop knowledge of and skills involved in both traditional and contemporary means of expression which are characteristic of printmaking.

2. To encourage free artistic creation with the use of techniques and technologies specific to the graphic arts.

2. To develop the ability to use basic elements such as composition, shape, contrast, scale and rhythm, in order to create visual messages.

3. To develop the ability to observe reality and move on from analysing it to capturing it with the concise language of graphic design.

Course validation (the first year)The artistic quality of and skills involved in the creation of a series of artworks produced during the first and the second term of studies are assessed during a presentation by the Faculty Examination Committee, which is appointed by the Dean. Course aims The course’s aim is to familiarise students with the elements which determine the perception and the creation of typographic characters, the creation of shapes of letters, orderly arrangements and typographic compositions, while taking the construction and clarity of the character and letter into account, specifically:

1. To raise students’ awareness of typography with the help of the visual language based on the letter.

2. To teach students to consciously solve problems linked with typographic design. 3. To teach students to aptly use classical (typesetting) and contemporary typographic skills.

The Faculty Degree-Awarding Committee decides, at the request of the head of studio, whether a student is ready to prepare a drawing appendix. The Faculty Degree-Awarding Committee assesses the appendix during a Master’s degree public presentation.

Course aim The course’s aim is to develop students’ ability to use drawing skills and analytical thinking in learning about the use of different materials and tools. The Master’s degree thesis and artwork The studio does not award degrees. However, it is possible to create a painting appendix to a Master’s degree thesis and artwork. A painting appendix is a separate project of high artistic value and is independent of the Master’s degree thesis and artwork. The Faculty Degree-Awarding Committee decides, at the request of the head of studio, whether a student is ready to prepare a painting appendix. The Faculty Degree-Awarding Committee assesses the appendix during a Master’s degree public presentation.

Course aimsThe course has two parallel aims – developing students’ artistic personality and seeking an individual language of artistic expression in painting. The course prepares students to become conscious and responsible participants in the art world. It develops a sense of aesthetics and encourages innovative solutions in the area of fine arts, which results in:- Openness to perceiving reality as a painter (analysis and synthesis).- Individualisation of artistic perception.- Developing the ability to competently use various means of artistic expression. - Developing artistic awareness in using colour and material, with a particular focus on the interdisciplinary approach.

Systematic work and timely completion of assigned works. 6. A panel presentation of artworks which validates the first year of studies.

Course validation (the first year) Artistic quality and skills involved in the creation of a set of works during the first and the second term of studies are assessed during a presentation by the Faculty Examination Committee, which is appointed by the Dean. A positive assessment leads to validation of the first and second term and consequently the whole year.

Course aims 1. To introduce students to issues of form, texture, hue, light, space, movement and composition.2. To make students aware of how fully many artistic phenomena are intertwined. 3. To develop an active attitude to reality.4. To encourage an artistic perception of phenomena and objects.5. To teach students how visual activities lead to moving from thinking in terms of objects to

thoughtful perception of an object.
