1.Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:The oak tree starts life as a little acorn, which is the fruit or nut of the adult oak tree, in autumn, the acorns drop to the ground where some of them are eaten by animals and birds. Others are collected and buried by squirrels and jays as a store of food for the bleak winter months. The animals bury the acorns at the right depth in the soil, and as long as they are away from the shadow of the adult tree, they grow on their own. The warmth and the moisture in the earth help the acorn to germinate. It grows a tiny shoot which eventually becomes the trunk of the tree and then divides to make leafy branches. Most oaks are deciduous. This means that they grow leaves every spring. The tree bursts into life, and its branches sprout hundreds of buds that open up into shiny green leaves.
