Information Release for the Age Action Alliance 18/4/16 The programme of coffee mornings held by Community Connections, part of Surrey Libraries, is generating a lot of interest amongst the residents and communities each one serves. A steady number of attendees have attended the many to date and learnt about the Reminiscence, Housebound and other services provided by the service. “Yes they were initially aimed at attracting anyone with a connection to dementia,” explains organiser, Steve Sansom. “However as I have promoted them, other services have expressed an interest and have come along to exhibit. The networking value here is immense.” Steve’s initial foray into the world of coffee mornings was a visit to the Bradbury Centre in Oct last year. Since then the grand tour has seen events in both libraries and day centres to promote the relevant library services. Attendances have been steady as people learn about the aims of the project to raise awareness of the services offered by Surrey Library Service to those with dementia and their carers. “The themes and branding have increased too,” adds Steve. “In June we are doing a Coronation Coffee Morning at Horsley Library on the 17 th June 10-12 to celebrate the Queen’s 90 th birthday. Then we move to Dittons Library near Kingston for ‘Tea on the Green’ 28 th June 15:00 to 17:00. Fingers crossed for some good weather.” You can also join Steve as he works with Runnymede Borough Council as they stage a Dementia Day at Chertsey Museum on the 17 th May between 11 and 3, or go to Walton Library on The 17 th May to meet the Elmbridge Carers between 10 and 12 noon. “I hope anyone seeing this article will get in touch and come and join us,” invites Steve. “The sessions are very friendly and a great opportunity to network and make new contacts. The programme of coffee mornings held by Community Connections, part of Surrey Libraries, is generating a lot of interest amongst the residents and communities each one serves.

The networking value here is immense.”

Steve’s initial foray into the world of coffee mornings was a visit to the Bradbury Centre in Oct last year. Since then the grand tour has seen events in both libraries and day centres to promote the relevant library services. Attendances have been steady as people learn about the aims of the project to raise awareness of the services offered by Surrey Library Service to those with dementia and their carers.

“I hope anyone seeing this article will get in touch and come and join us,” invites Steve. “The sessions are very friendly and a great opportunity to network and make new contacts.
