Bicameral : Two Houses The most important duty of the legislative branch is to make laws. There are 100 senators in the senate. Two from each state There are 435 representatives in the House of Representatives. Based on each states population Representatives are elected for two-year terms. Why are Expressed Powers Important? Article I, Section 8, Provides for several Enumerated Powers (because they are number 1-18) 1. Coining money. 2. Maintaining a military. 3. Declaring war on other countries. 4. Regulating interstate and foreign commerce The Constitution also gives Congress the authority to make all laws which shall be necessary and proper.
