Extrinsic / Intrinsic Motivation• MOTIVATION:
Something that energizes, directs, and sustains a particular behaviour
• INTRINSIC MOTIVATION: Internal desires to perform a particular task, people undertake certain activities because they give pleasure, or help them to develop a particular skill, or It may be thought to be the morally the right thing to do.
• EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION: Factors which are external to the individual and unrelated to the task they are performing. Examples might include financial reward, good marks, and other benefits.
Maslow’s Hierachy of Needs
• As educators perhaps we share a common goal in striving to make sure that , where possible, students’ deficiency needs are satisfied in order to facilitate motivation and to stimulate optimal learning and development. Maslow argues that intrinsic motivation will not occur if students are concerned for lacking hygiene factors in their environment, or perhaps do not have adequate affinity with or respect for respect for the people around them
