The theme that I chose was Blood Diamonds from Geography and History of the World. My teacher is Mr. Cleaver and he went into such depth on this topic that it inspired me to do my project on Blood Diamonds. I think this is something that will stay in my mind forever.

Blood Diamonds

By Simi Dhillon Block 4

Diamonds last forever…

They might please you… they will probably always be there for you…

BUT… are they conflict free??

Conflict Diamonds are diamonds from areas that are at conflict or war.

In Africa, people lose their hands…

…legs and arms for real and it is all because of diamonds!

Many people don’t know about Sierra Leone & its conflict diamonds

Conflict diamonds are not something to be proud of…

Because they are taken away from Africans and illegally exported!

One holy cross = arm of somebody innocent

Dealers will keep selling you conflict diamonds unless you ask them…

It isn’t easy to avoid conflict diamonds because 60% of the worlds diamonds are exported from Africa.

Africans die because of diamonds.

Rebels snatch diamonds from Africans

Innocent children are turned into soldiers, if caught by the Rebels

Drugged child soldiers

They look very nice but is that beauty worth death?

Pressure is on to find a diamond

The money that dealers get from illegal trades could last for about 3 generations.

So while the dealers and their families relax Africans are still dying.

In 2003, the Kimberley Process was entered into the force to stop the exporting of conflict diamonds.

Since 60% of the world’s diamonds are exported from Africa, it is a huge possibility that they could be conflict diamonds.

Ask about it before you choose

Will you marry me?

I wonder if this ring is conflict free?
