Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School

Students with Disability (NCCD) Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about support provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019). Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

year of schooling category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory

or social/emotional level of adjustment provided: support provided

within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools

consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools

develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability. The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy). Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au). If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the College. Community Leaders Education Forum

We had a very successful Community Leaders Education Forum at Durack Campus. Thank you to all Community Leaders who attended. Dr Mustafa Ally presented a very interesting talk about the future of Universities and the impact this will have on schools of the future. His presentation also focused on the impact of technology on education in the 21st Century. Schools should focus on teaching the important 21st Century skills for students to be flexible in their careers. Dr Islam presented the new QCE system for Year 11 and 12 students to parents and community leaders. His presentation focused on a wide range of learning options to suit Year 11 and 12 students’ interests and career goals. To receive a QCE, students must complete and achieve set amount of learning to a set standard, in a set pattern, while meeting literacy and numeracy requirements.

Learning for a Lifetime in 4A

Every student coloured a dove and stuck it on to the 4A Harmony Day poster, reflecting the qualities of being an inclusive individual.

We won the poster for Antibullying Day and the class received a picnic hamper to share!

The class put in a great effort towards

Ramadan decorations and set their Ramadan goals. We won the mosque making competition!

4A is BIG on being inclusive. We have participated in many virtuous events so far this year and each student has contributed to making our displays meaningful and successful.

In 4A, we pride ourselves on integrating our learning, aligning concepts with our Islamic ethos and implementing this understanding in how we interact with each other at school.

Ramadan decorations and winning mosque.

Ideal Quran habits Imam Sharif (Islamic studies coordinator).

Believers are encouraged to learn the holy Quran and teach it to others as a religious requirement. Quran reading and memorizing is the spiritual breath of the whole belief system, so much so that an Islamic life is almost impossible without it. We try here at AIIC to inculcate in our students the ideal life habits to stay closer to the holy book. We encourage our students to follow through with their Islamic habits which will be instrumental in creating right Islamic atmosphere in their homes.

Read one page of Quran after Salatul Magrib and Salatul Fajr. Attend an evening Madrassa either in our school or in any local Masjid.

If a child have not reached Quran reading from Mushaf yet, parents are to help with their Qaida reading every day.

Read Sura Waqia and Sura Mulk between Magrib and Isha. Read Sura Kahf every Friday. Read Sura Yasin and Sura Rahman once every week together with other family members. Do wudu before touching Quran. Place Qurans at a higher shelf always, out of reach of little children. Listen to Quran speeches from authentic mainstream speakers and recitation of famous

readers. Read Quran stories and relate that to others. Revise the already memorized Suras on a regular basis. Collect books about Quran and make a home Islamic library. Listen to Islamic Nasheeds without music. Have a Quran CD in the car. During long trips, have Qurans, Musallas, topi and compass ready. Have taaleem (mutual learning) gatherings of extended families on a regular basis. Decorate our walls with Islamic displays and images. Say salam amongst family members and always express respect and care for the senior

members of the family. Adults can share their childhood Islamic experiences with their children and the sacrifices

that ancestors had made to safe guard their beliefs.

Following these patterns will ensure a healthy religious atmosphere in the families so that our younger generation will develop greater Islamic personality traits right from the grassroot level.

GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY

AMBASSADORS’ WORKSHOP

YEAR 10 During Term 2 (13 June) 15 students from Year 10 attended a GriffithBUSINESS Ambassadors’ Workshop Day at Griffith Nathan campus. The theme for this workshop ‘Social Marketing’, entitled “Delivering change for the better”. The students learned about societal problems such as environmental damage, social inequities and health challenges, and how these problems incur high costs placing economic and social burdens on communities. The workshop gave students experience in understanding more about how social marketing can be applied to change peoples’ behaviours towards better outcomes. Our students worked in groups with other secondary college students and participated in final group presentations of their research and innovations for social marketing to help resolve a particular societal problem. This is a great opportunity for students to experience university for a day. They were all awarded gold badges to wear as ‘Ambassadors’ for Griffith University and received Certificates of Participation. Deborah Heis Guidance Counsellor
