In everyone’s life, there comes a book—one book that moves you to laugh, to cry, to think, to change your perspective.

The National Book Federation recently published a book called The Book That Changed My Life, in which Diane Osen interviewed National Book Award winners and finalists about which books changed the way they looked at reading, at writing, at the world.

Interview at least 4 different people about what book(s) changed their lives. These people must be older than you by at least one year.

Your list will include at least 10 books and authors. Due: Thursday, Sept. 19.

Research those books that might interest you from that list. You will have that book in class for SSR starting on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

This is a two-part project. Step 1:

Final Project: You will write a business letter to the author,

detailing whether or not this book changed you. What did it make you think about? How did the author use language, plot, character development, setting, theme, or symbols in a different way or that might change someone’s perspective on the world? How did it open your mind to new possibilities?

The information on the business letter format will be given in early October.

Final letter due: Thursday, Nov. 14
