Don’t Let the Flu Leave You BlueNo permitas que la gripa le quite el ánimo

By Julia Winston, Health and Wellness Committee

Seldom do employees want to “waste” a personal day for sick time, or feel that they cannot aff ord to miss a day of work. When someone comes to work sick there is a high likelihood that their illness will spread to others, including their coworkers and customers. Flu spreads easily and quickly, and the best way to keep your business running smoothly through fl u season is to encourage people to stay home when they are sick.

Please take advantage of the City’s fl u web site, www.austinfl u.com to learn more about how to limit the spread of fl u, and to be prepared in the event that you need to stay home. This web site has useful and creative information for you and your family about fl u symptoms and facts. Also, for those individuals with small children, there is useful information about how to tell when a child is sick, and when it is not okay to go to school or child care.

Take care of yourself, your family, your employees and their families this fl u season. Get vaccinated and get informed. Stay home until you or your loved ones are well. Rest is best for the fl u and for you!

By Monica Willey, HTIA Program Administrator

Alberto Cohen is a CPA with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting and a Masters Degree in Taxation. He has practiced public accounting for more than 18 years while serving clients with integrity, passion and commitment to help them realize their fi nancial goals.

Alberto knew he wanted to be an entrepreneur because he wanted to be in control of his own future, feel the satisfaction of building something of his own and gain fi nancial independence. The thought of creating a company based on his own practices, visions and goals drove him to seek guidance in the form of Emerging Enterprises, where he began the Business Management classes in October 2009.

Alberto said his biggest fear was resigning from his job and giving up the fi nancial security of a steady paycheck. The incubator helped relieve this fear by translating his vision and ideas into tangible fi nancial projections. He plans on using his fi nancial projections as a way to map his necessary steps for future growth. On January 21, 2010 Alberto Cohensuccessfully launched his own CPA practice.

When asked if he would recommend the Emerging Enterprises Business Incubator program, Alberto responded, “Defi nitely! It is a great tool to motivate entrepreneurs to take the challenge and materialize their ideas and goals”.

If you are interested in Alberto’s CPA services, he can be reached via e-mail at [email protected]. If you would like to learn more about Emerging Enterprises, please contact Heberto Ochoa at [email protected].
