CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY:All cancellations must be made in writing to KBDi. You may assign your registration to another person (additional payment will apply if the member rate has been purchased and assigned person is not a member of KBDi). If you are unable to attend or find a replacement attendee, you must notify KBDi in writing 14 days prior to the conference dates, and a refund will be allocated (less $55 administration fee). Any requests for refunds after this time will be a the discretion of KBDi. All refunds will be made after the Conference.

INSURANCE:KBDi recommend that delegates take out personal travel and medical insurance which includes loss or damage of personal possessions and loss of registration and accommodation fees through cancellation.

This is a common misconception, and can lead to confusion between clients and designers. Having a clear understanding of each of the styles that could fall under the broad categories of Vintage, Country, Traditional or Retro will help ensure you and your clients are on the same page. One of Australia’s most highly-awarded kitchen designers, Lee Hardcastle CKD Au, will be the facilitator for this session, outlining the elements that most clearly define popular styles like Hamptons, French Provincial, Modern Provincial, Vintage and more. Certified Designers Forum Session #1Design for Accessibility

The Australian Government has been building ‘accessible’ homes (to accommodate the needs of those with a disability) in social housing for some time. There is, however, and will continue to be a growing market for accessible housing in the private home sector, as Australians look for homes that accommodate varying levels of need. In this workshop, Certified Designers will be encouraged to recognise and understand the needs of older people, people with a disability or multiple disabilities or chronic illness, and people recovering from illness or injury, and learn what must be considered when designing for these needs.

From government regulations and building code compliance to design process and product selection, Colin will discuss the ins and outs of hospitality design in this informative forum session.

Self-confessed colour-obsessed Glenda Roff will lead delegates on a fascinating journey through the spectrum of colour. In this workshop you’ll gain an understanding of your own personal colour preferences using exercises based on the work of Japanese colour theorist Shigenobu Kobayashi. Glenda will encourage you to consider the broad spectrum of people’s colour preferences, and

how they might enrich your design practice.

12noon Conference Session #5Light It Up

Light defines space, enhances colour and illuminates texture and form – it makes our surroundings visible. But at the same time, light generates mood and atmosphere – two elements that are critical in successful interior design. In this two-part session, conference delegates will revisit the theory behind artificial lighting (including types of lamps, light spectrum, measurement of light and light efficiency), and discuss the practical elements of application in kitchen and bathroom design. We will shed light on the most common mistakes made when lighting these areas, and discuss how best to avoid them, and review the latest in lighting products specific to the kitchen and bathroom industry.

1.45pm Open Panel DiscussionThe kitchen, bathroom and interior design industry is one of the few that is not protected by any form of regulation. Being free from barriers to entry, anyone with a desire to decorate can ‘don a designer’s hat’ and start their trade. In this sure-to-be-lively debate, our seasoned panel will discuss whether this is a good or bad thing, and how it affects the industry as a whole. They’ll consider what makes a designer a design professional, and ponder how we as designers can influence consumers to trust the difference and use industry professionals. KBDi’s Open Panels are often our most popular conference events; we invite you to join us and have your say on this very important topic.
