Remember That RecreationMust Involve Re-creation
After a tiring day at work, it is so easy to curlup on the couch and spend the next three or fourhours watching television. The irony is that, if youare like most people, you actually feel more fatiguedafter watching too much TV than you feel when youfirst sat down.
Recreation is tremendously important to abalanced life. But recreation must serve to re-createyou. Recreation must restore you and bring youback to life. Real recreation will fill you with arenewed sense of optimism and energy. Truerecreation connects you to the highest and bestwithin you while rekindling your inner fire. As platonoted, ''My belief is not that the good body by anybodily excellence inproves the soul, but on thecontrary, that the good soul, by her own excellence, improves the body as far as this may be possible."Effective recreation then must involve some pursuitthat soothes your soul.
