Configuration OverviewBackground As SS integrated access device, IAD (Integrated Access Device)

faces individual subscriber and small-scale enterprise. It accessesclient terminal devices (such as PC, telephone and electrograph)to grouping switching network, transmits data service transpar-ently, performs VoIP disposal on voice and provides subscriberswith multiple service.

Refer to Figure 1 for TG location in NGN architecture and the pro-tocols applied in SS interconnection.

FIGURE 1 IAD LOCATION IN NGN SIMPLE ARCHITECTURE

IAD Product With the development of network technology, integration oftraditional telecommunication and data communication becomesthe tendency. SoftSwitch(SS) technology interconnects betweenPSTNnetwork and grouping switching data network smartly andefficiently, and help PSTN evolve to IP network smoothly.

Facing individuals and enterprises, IAD is the subscriber access de-vice in SS network architecture, which accesses terminal devices(such as PC, telephone and electrograph) to grouping switchingnetwork. IAD provides subscribers with more service by transmit-ting data service transparently and performing VoIP disposal onvoice.

ZTE has a wide variety of IAD products, such as I508, I524, I504and I508C, etc. These products meet different requirements of di-versified networking and subscriber types. Here take IAD productI508A for example in Figure 2.

ProtocolIntroduction

H248 protocol is applied in the interconnection between SS controldevice and IAD, which belongs to the interface protocol betweenMGC and MG.

H.248/Megaco (Media Gateway Control Protocol), called H.248protocol in short, is non-peer a media gateway control protocolstipulated by IETF and ITU-T. H.248 is applied in the telecom-munications between MGC and MG, and its main functions are

to establish a fine service bearing connection model to separatethe connection between calling and bearing, besides, it also canrealize the service interconnection between network and PSTNnetwork by managing TG, AG and IAD, etc.

H248 protocol is intended for controlling and supervising the bear-ing connection behavior of MG. As a result, the primary issues areto abstract and describe MG interior objects, that’s why H.248 putsforward the GW connection model conception.

Connection models are the logical entities or objects in MG con-trolled by MGC. It is the content core of the messages betweenMGC and MG. MGC controls the connection model on MG by com-mands while MG reports various information of the connectionmodel, including status, parameters and ability. Basic architectureof model includes: termination and context, as shown in Figure 3.

FIGURE 3 H.248 CONNECTION MODEL EXAMPLE

1. Termination is a kind of logical entity which can send and re-ceive one or several kinds of media streams.

Termination comprises lots of attribute descriptions which com-bine to a group of descriptive symbols in commands, such ascorrelative media stream parameters, bearing parameters, andpossibly-included Modern, etc.

Termination corresponds to a physical entity or a virtual entity.Once encased in the gateway, physical termination can existpermanently (so-called semi-permanent termination). Physi-cal termination can be a PSTN trunk interface on TG, commontelephone interface or PBX interface on AG. Meanwhile, virtualtermination (temporary termination) corresponds to informa-tion stream, such as RTP voice stream affiliated with calls, oncea call is terminated, this voice stream die out.

In actual applications, after establishing a termination, this ter-mination will be allocated with a unique Termination ID to iden-tify termination in MG.

Chapter 1 IAD Interconnection Configuration

2. Made up of a group of terminations, context represents therelations between a group of terminations.

One context can include multiple terminations. Maximum ter-mination number is varied in context in compliance with dif-ferent MG service characters. One context must comprise oneterminal at least; meanwhile, one terminal can only belong toone context at a time. If a context contains more than 2 ter-minals, it will describe topological structure and other mediamixed/switched parameters.

The master/slave LSQs work in active/standby status. The mas-ter LSQ, if operating properly, is used to handle related servicesand protocols of the zone. Once the master LSQ fails, the slaveLSQs starts to assume the master SPC’s work. Therefore, the mas-ter/slave LSQs should use different boards. Retransmissiontimes

Each transaction is protected by aretransmission mechanism. It is consideredas a disconnection when reaching max.retransmission times; SS considers gatewayhas quit the service once reaching max.retransmission times.

Retransmissionmode

There are 2 kinds of modes: 1-Variableduration and 2-Constant duration.Constant duration refers to the time intervalof each retransmission is permanent. Variableduration refers to the time interval betweensuccessive transaction retransmissionsincreases progressively (for example, thetime interval for the first retransmission is200ms, and becomes 400ms for the secondretransmission, and so forth).

Presently, a property template in the SS supports a maximumof concurrent seven SDP description configurations, includingAUDIO, FAX, VIDEO, DATA, MGCP/NCS, ISDN Tran andZTE Hairpin. The carried media parameter information varieswith the SDP types. For different services, add differentSDP description information. For example, if 6–ISDN Tranis added, then the CLEARMODE line is added in the SDPdescriptor, and the CRBT APP can use this coding to identifyvideo calls and determine whether to trigger the video CRBT,as shown in Figure 27.

PacketTemplate

Meaning

123H248ICAS The international CAS packet, used fordetecting forward release and backward releasein CAS signaling.

240H248R2 The R2 packet, used for detecting numberreceiving and other attributes.

69IT The heartbeat packet. It is necessary toconfigure the heartbeat detection event forthe ROOT node. After the gateway registers, the SoftSwitch sends the heartbeat detectionevent, and the gateway periodically reportsaccording to the time set by the SoftSwitch.

241H248MFD Used for pulse number receiving.

242H248XAL The anti-polarity packet, which is sent whenthe conversation begins. Upon receipt of thepacket, the system starts the billing process.

244H248_FSK The caller ID display packet, which is consistentwith the andisp packet. This is a ZTE privatepacket, which works for ZTE’s gateways only.To implement the caller ID display feature byinterconnecting other devices, configure theandisp packet.

245H248_AU The packet that plays tones. The configurationof this packet should be performed before theconfiguration of the cg packet. Upon receiptof the packet, the media server starts to playtones. The packet should not be configured inthe IAD packet templates.

246IPCTX Used for the console service, which sends DNsand Centrex group information.

247H248_CNT Used for the cross-network feature.

248H248_AUTH The authentication packet. If this itemis configured, and the authentication isapplied, the SoftSwitch periodically sends theauthentication detection event. If the gatewaydoes not pass the authentication, the SS forcesthe gateway to exit the service.

249DIFFSERV Used for the service controlling media.

255RTCP Used for QoS statistics. When the conversationbegins, the calling/called parties receive amessage indicating the statistical processstarts. If the QoS feature is required, thispacket should be configured; and meanwhile,in the configuration of global services, selectthe parameter in association with the QoSstatistics feature.

256H248_ISDN Used for ISDN calls.

Context This topic introduces the steps to configure TID NAME of IAD de-vice.

TIDNAME is the terminal symbol in H248/MGCP protocol whichmarks physical termination point (subscriber circuit) and logicaltermination point (RTP port). IAD devices of each vendor havetheir own TIDNAME, such as aaln/0, AG58900, etc. TIDNAME dataconfiguration of SS must be identical with that of IAD device.

During the TIDNAME configuration, it is necessary to configureTIDNAMEs of different types (user circuit and RTP resource).

Steps 1. In the Data Configure interface, select Service Manage(S)> TID NAME Configuration(I).

The TID NAME Configuration window pops up as shown inFigure 33.
