Zonta International envisions a world in which women's rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able

to achieve her full potential.

In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision

making positions on an equal basis with men.

What is “The Istanbul Convention”?

The Council of Europe (CoE) Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence

The most far reaching international treaty to tackle this serious violation of human rights

What does the Convention require states to do?

It requires states/ governments to implement gender equality policies and to empower women.

It is not about treating women as helpless victims but about making sure they can rebuild their own lives and that of their families and communities.

Training professionals working with victims

Raising awareness

Providing teaching material on equality at all levels of education
