• Energy Farm in Abony– Complex project (biogas fired CHP, ethanol production facility,
aerob and anaerob fermenters, glass houses)– Raw material from 3000 ha agricultural area and from animal
husbandry with 2000 head of cattle– Outputs: heat + electricity + bioethanol
• Abbey of Pannonhalma– Wood chips boiler (700kW) and gas fired CHP unit (100 kWe)– Raw material: vine stem, lavender, wood residues from the
arboretum• Biosolar village heating system in Pornóapáti– 104 households– 2 biomass boiler with nominal capacity of 2*600 kW

Biomass Trade study 8 Country studies + Synthesis Report
Sustainable bio energy policy approach in Central Europe

Some Aspects of Biomass Trade in CE
Bioenergy is currently the most important RES in CE, will be essential for achieving 2020 targets
PP countries have high domestic potential, in some countries only sparsely utilised (e.g. IT, HU, PL, SK)
Trade activities mostly concentrate on CE and neighbouring countries (Ukraine, Russia, Sweden etc.), only minor imports of bioliquids from Asia
Traded fractions are mostly refined biomass products like pellets, wood chips, biofuels for transport
IT has particularly high biomass imports, AT and DE are large exporters of pellets
(4Biomass, Tempel 2010)
Some Aspects of Biomass Trade in Hungary
• Hungarian wood and agro pellet production production
18
Some Aspects of Biomass Trade in Hungary
• Main export-import routes of wood chips in 2009 (coniferous and non-coniferous)
19
Some Aspects of Biomass Trade in Hungary
• Main export-import routes of briquettes in 2009
20
Some Aspects of Biomass Trade in Hungary
• Main export-import routes of firewood in 2009
21
22
Output: Transnational Action Plan• Investigation of the current
state of national biomass trade• The studies will be presented to
policy makers responsible for the implementation of Renewable Energy- as well as Biomass Action Plans.
shows how an integrated and transnational coordinated bioenergy policy can be designed

25
Dissemination activitiesDissemination activities• 4BIOMASS web site
www.4biomass.eu- information about bioenergy use, potentials for
more efficient exploitation and the policy framework surrounding bioenergy production
- access to database, national internet portals and other networks
• Transnational Newsletter, Flyers• Project deliverables will be
presented to European and National concerned authorities, EU energy players and the European Energy Associations ( etc.)
26
• Stakeholder list: biomass production (agriculture, forestry) and processing companies, transport, energy companies, policy makers, NGOs, etc.
• Stakeholder dialogue → Questionnaires, personal interviews
NetworkingNetworking
27
Output: Transnational NetworkTransnational Network• Purposes:
– Collect competent institutions under one roof (to know each other)
– Supports international and national cooperation– Supports exchange of information about best
practices, new technologies and other ways of biomass utilization
• Under development... Pending questions:– Internet based tool?– How we can induce stakeholders to use it?– How it can be maintained after
the duration of 4Biomass?
