Dr. SeussBy Zion

Why Did I Choose this Gifted Person?

I chose this gifted person because I like to read rhyming and funny books.I wanted to study this person because Dr. Seuss’s books helped me read when I was a little boy. One thing we have in common is we both like books.

Early Life

He was born in 1904. Both of his parents were Bavarian so his real name, Theodore Seuss Geisel, was a Bavarian name. He went to Dartmouth College and wanted to become a professor. One of his classmates said he should become a cartoonist because all he really wanted to do was draw.

Attributes

Dr. Seuss is really good at creating books and making the words rhyme. He has funny, crazy characters that are entertaining to everyone.

Challenges

Dr. Seuss's challenges were trying to publish a book. Nobody wanted to publish his book, which was an ABC book. He then tried to publish And To Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street and he almost threw the book away because no one would publish it. He ran into a classmate from college who was willing to publish his book. He finally got it published!

Gifts and Talents

He was creative since he made funny, make- believe characters. He knew how to make books that would teach kids how to read. He wrote and published at least forty-six books while he was alive. Seven of his books were published after he had died.

Episode or Story

Dr. Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat because he was very worried that kids were struggling to read. Houghton Mifflin’s challenged Dr. Seuss who can make the best book that first graders can read. Then Dr. Seuss put cat and hat together and came up with The Cat in the Hat and it was his best book. He got someone to publish his books and the book was a big hit.

Contributions

He gave us entertaining and fun books to read. Dr. Seuss’ most famous book is The Cat in the Hat.
