Reading B Auto Maintenance

Maintenance is something most of us ignore until our car stops functioning. And then we wonder what went wrong. Maintenance is one of the most serious aspects of ownership; it determines the longevity, performance and reliability of the car you drive. It means taking care of all the parts, even those that are inside the bonnet. These are the ones that directly concern the performance of your car. Besides taking it to the service station at regular periods, it is a good idea to go through the owner's manual that will give a fair idea about its routine maintenance.

Auto maintenance is classified into two kinds: regular and

irregular. Regular maintenance includes routine check-ups, first-class and second-class maintenance; Irregular maintenance has running-in-time maintenance and seasonal maintenance. Cleaning, checking, tightening, adjusting, lubricating are some of the unavoidable things of maintenance. With the development of auto technology and the application of computer in auto industry, auto maintenance has been given more details.

Generally speaking, there are three aspects of auto maintenance.

1. Car body maintenance. It is also known as car beautifying. The main purpose is to remove external oxidation and corrosion and to protect the beauty of the car. It covers the maintenance of auto coating, carpet, bumper, dash board, electronic machining, leather and plastic, wheels and tires, wind-shield glass, chassis, engine, and so on.

2. Internal maintenance. The main purpose is to guarantee the best state technically, which includes the maintenance of lubricating system, fueling system, cooling system, braking system, fuel injection, etc.

3. Body retreading. The diagnosis of deep stretches, the repair of bumper, changes of leather or color all belong to body retreading, through which the vehicle keeps new.

Maintenance Tips Get your vehicle serviced only at authorized service stations Check the engine oil level once every two weeks. Also check the levels of coolant and water in the radiator and battery. Always use genuine spare parts. Give your vehicle anti-rust coating before the monsoons. Avoid accelerating and braking abruptly. Shut up the engine whenever you expect to wait. Drive at a moderate speed of 45-55 km/h to maximize fuel efficiency.
