What is Zero Pollution Discharge?
- Effective treatment should aim at total utilization of wasted raw materials, converting wastes into resources.
- Ecotechnologies that use Nature-inspired processes, can achieve this.
- Man-made technologies often produce sludge, reject streams, heat and greenhouse gases. Zero PollutionDischarge insists on no use of electricity/chemicals, also no shifting of pollution into air or on landfills.
Ecotechnologies

to convert pollution into resources, hence best place for waste management.
• Treated wastewater should go to the soil, BOD/COD is food for the soil.

Fish and Shrimp/Prawn
• Fish can survive in upper oxygenated zone when the pond/lake bottom is anaerobic.
• Shrimp is a bottom feeder animal.Hence shrimp indicates cleaner water body.
Air Quality and Rain
• Lowest NOX/CO2 ratio : healthy ambiance, dew irrigation
• Medium NOX/CO2 ratio : mild, uniform rain pattern
• Higher NOX/CO2 ratio: thunder, lightening, heavy rain
• Very high NOX/CO2 ratio: stops rain, causes famine.
TDS: Not a good indicator
• Great Salt Lake(in the USA) has 5-27% salinity.• But has natural shrimp growth.• World seas have average 3.5% salinity.• N/C ratio, not the TDS, is important indicator
of pollution.• RO process retains higher fraction of
nitrates(small size) but less fraction of useful minerals. N/C ratio goes up. RO water is more corrosive(acidic).
BioSanitizer and N/C ratio
• BioSanitizer reduces N/C ratio and improves saline/brackish water.
• This is like converting 1,000 Rs notes into a bundle of 10 Rs notes.
• Such converted water becomes a resource for drinking, agriculture, etc.
