ur z-editorial meeting was running long. Submissions were scattered all over the table. The cookies on the snack table were taunting us! Yet we could not decide upon a theme for this issue. It seemed an impossible task.

Ideas were coming from left and right: Piñata! Celebration! Pandora’s Box! After many more great ideas had been thought of, we still could not all agree.

We organized and reorganized the submissions until, finally, success. The theme is to be… SPRINKLES!!!

Now you may be thinking, Sprinkles? Why sprinkles? What does a zine have to do with candy? But to us sprinkles represent more than candy. They symbolize creativity, assortment, color, excitement, and so much more! And... who doesn’t love sprinkles???

First you get a bowl. Then

you put the cake mix in the

bowl. You put 3 eggs, one

pint of milk, 2 cups of flour,

and a teaspoon of sugar in

the bowl. Mix and pour in

cake pan. Bake it for 30

minutes. Let it cool.

Now frost and put

candy sprinkles on it.

Cut the cake. And eat it.

A Birthday Partyby Courtnay Spaulding (grade 2)

To have a birthday party, you need to buy invitations. Next you write out the invitations. Then you give them to the people you want at your party. You will need to buy decorations like balloons, streamers, cups, plates, napkins, and other favors. Then you will need a birthday cake and candles to put on top of the cake. You can buy a number candle of your age. Or you can buy straight candles as many as the age you are. Now you are ready for your party. Have a fun time and I hope people bring you lots of presents.

Training A Dogby Marlayna King (grade 2)

Training a dog is sometimes easy and training a dog is sometimes hard. When I trained my dog I found it is not always easy. I have seen some tricks are easy to do and some tricks are really hard to do. One thing I would love to train my dog to do is take out the trash. I would also love, love, love if he would get the mail. It would also be great if he could pick up my room. If he could clean my room he would chew my clothes to bits, and if he could get the mail he would chew the mail to bits. Now we are moving to fetching the ball. He is not good with it. He’ll get the ball but he won’t bring it back.

Locked Out!by Eva Svec (grade 3)

“Audrey, you’re babysitter is here!” “Uhhhh!” I said. I was just in the middle of a really good book! Now I have to do whatever the boring babysitter wants me to do! At least that’s usually what happens! But I ran downstairs anyway despite the fact that I really didn’t want to. Actually I slid down the looooong banister to the floor; I love to do that. Then I ran to the front door to give my mom and dad hugs and kisses before they left. “Wow” I exclaimed. I thought they were going somewhere fancy, but not this fancy. I mean, “Wow!” My mom was wearing a silk violet dress with an aqua blue shawl. She looked great. My dad looked really good too in the new suit he got. My babysitter Nicole said, “We’re actually sort of coming with you, Mr. and Mrs. Levine. We’re going to the zoo.” So we went to the zoo, and my parents went to their fancy dinner thing. It all went well till the end. I came back from the awesome zoo with my even more awesome babysitter. We went to open the front door but when we tried the door it was LOCKED! I said, “Don’t worry! There’s a back door!” But when we tried the back door, it was locked, too! “SHOOT!” we both said at the same time. “Wait, I know where the spare key is.” “Great,” replied Nicole. I got the spare key, and I opened the back door with it. Then I smiled at Nicole, and she smiled broadly back.

National Parksby Austin Stoodey (grade 2)

Did you know that there are 400 national parks in the United States? Not every state has a national park. In New England, the only state that has one is Maine. Some states have more than one. Alaska and Hawaii each have eight national parks.

Yellowstone was the first national park in the United States. It has been a national park since 1872. It is three different states—Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana.

Anyone can visit these parks. There are many fun things you can do when you go to one. You can go camping, so bring a tent. Some parks have cabins you can stay in. Many parks are by rivers, lakes, or the ocean. If you go to those parks you can swim, fish, or go boating. There are parks in the mountains. You can go hiking there.

There are many animals that live in national parks. When you go to a national park, you might see deer, wolves, moose, elk, foxes, owls, ducks, bison, and many more animals.

I have enjoyed learning about national parks. Someday I would like to go camping at a national park. Wouldn’t you like to go stay at a national park?

What’s OObleck?by Ange Wunderle (grade 5)

OOblek is a solid and a liquid. It's a solid because when you pick it up, it stays in a "ball." But when you handle it fast, it turns into a liquid. When you make OOblek you use liquid glue and liquid starch (make sure you use the same amount of each) and add food dye (optional). But if you make it with peanut butter and chocolate then it's not OOblek... it's OOyum!

Monster Trucksby Rory Carroll (grade 2)

Do you know there are monsters that are not out

on Halloween but are trucks? They’re modified

pickup trucks. Let me tell you about monster

trucks.

Monster trucks have a

roll cage that protects

the drivers if they get

in a crash. They do

freestyle events. In a

freestyle event, they

race over jumps and

try to get as high in

the air as they can.

That’s what I like

about them. They

have a remote that’s called a RII or a kill switch.

It is a switch that will kill the motor.

Did you know that the first monster truck made

was called Big Foot? It was built in 1974. A

monster truck weighs 9,000 pounds including

the driver and the fuel. They have thick tread to

grip in to the dirt.

I would like to drive a monster truck some time.

They are every noisy and really cool. I can’t wait

until I am old enough.

I was the only one out of my sisters that didn't do Mommy and Me classes. When I got older, I started to do much harder skills. Now I might be a Level 5. That is my talent.

The next day he went to the science fair,And he went running around in his underwear.He got kicked out and started to pout.

He went to see his sister to treat her blister.

20 years later he went to the MLB.Then he discovered he dislocated his knee.Then he could never play again,Even with his hen in the chicken pen.

When he was 65, he did a penny drive,And almost got killed by a bee hive.

Then he turned 80,And he hated Tom Brady.So he slapped him across the face,And sprayed him with mace.

When he died,Everyone cried.

That was the story of Bill.(Oh, and, by the way, he had a fish named Fill that took a pill.)

Helen Kellerby Emillia Gomo (grade 2)

I found out a lot about an amazing little girl named Helen Keller. I would like to share with you.

Helen was blind and deaf. When she was one she had a terrible illness. After the illness she couldn’t hear or see. When she was a little girl she ran around the house like crazy screaming. She was confused. She didn’t understand that she wasn’t supposed to do that.

Than Annie Sullivan came into her life. Annie helped Helen understand her new world. She taught Helen how to read and write with Braille. When Helen got older she wrote books. Her most famous book is the book about her own life. The book is called The Story of My Life.

It all started at the water pump. Annie put Helen’s hands under the water pump. So Helen could feel the water Annie spelled water in Helen’s hand. Than Helen ran to the house touching everything, having Annie spell the words in her hand. This was an important day for Helen. She could now understand and communicate.

I learned a lot about this amazing little girl I admired and look up to her.
