ZebraNet is a mobile sensor system which consists of sensor nodes built into collars on zebras to take positional readings using GPS
Hardware Design Versions
Constraints
Memory constraint Energy constraint Device access constraint Radio packet size constraint GPS sensing time constraint Flash storage constraint
Energy issues
System Level Energy Management• dual clock scheme• on-the-fly processing• timely use of components
Power Supplies• linear regulators• switch converters
Batteries and Solar Recharge• Solar Cells• Batteries
Operation Schedule
CPU wake up/Radio - Flash power on Radio transmitting / receiving start Network communication time Radio - Flash power off GPS power on GPS sensing time GPS power off / Flash power on CPU sleep / Flash power off
Deployment
In Kenya, the system deployed on Zebras at the 100 sq km.
The radio range is measured between 100 m to 1.2 km; some conditions; such as grazing of Zebras, cause radio range decrease
Zebra location data is given to biologists to learn about Zebra movement difference from day to night
Conclusion
Developed fully-functional highly mobile energy efficient
sensing system
Thank you
