Zebra Landscape and Tree Care Standard Operating ProcedureProcess: Bed Edging (Turf Edge)
Steps Key Points PicturesBefore starting work at a location discuss the level ofdetail needed with supervisor. Some beds it may onlybe necessary to lip up the edges and not cut new edges(see SOP on lipping up)
1) Identify basic bed shape Some beds have straight edges. More often than notthe edge is slightly curved. Also pay attention to tightcorners a mower may have to make.
2) Select starting point3) Cut a new edge in the sod along the bed Remove as little edge as possible to keep the intended
shape of the bed4) Move wheelbarrow within easy reach5) Kneel down on one knee6) Use blade of spade to remove cut edging Scrape the edges up at an angle close to the slope of
the bed, but ensuring that you get all the roots.7) Put edgings in wheelbarrow8) Continue until all edging remove Move wheelbarrow as needed to keep in in close reach.9) Step back and review that work professional The edge should be straight or smoothly curved
10) Discard edgings If there is no where on site to discard the edgings have a place on the trailer for them. Nicer pieces of edging can be used to repair other spots in the turf as needed.
