Zafco Rejuvenates Armstrong Brand

Marking a historic day, on April 23, 2012 - ZAFCO acquiresfrom Pirelli Tyre SpA the tire brand Armstrong.

Asif Yusufzai, member of the Board of Directors of ZAFCO, described the deal as marking a momentous occasion for both the organization and the tire brand.

He commented: “We are very pleased with this development. We took this step in keeping with our long term vision of establishing our presence across all segments of the market and to implement our global strategy of offering a wide ranging assortment to our customers. We also aim for continuous improvements in product quality to ensure that every new product we roll out under the Armstrong will be better than its predecessors”.

IDIADA TEST SHOWS ZT1000 FROM ZEETEX IS A STRONG CHALLENGER FOR KOREAN AND TAIWANESE BRANDS.In its bid to consistently improve and innovate its product line, ZAFCO tested the new ZT1000 pattern under the ZEETEX brand at the world renowned IDIADA testing facility in Spain to assess the strengths and areas of improvement of the ZT1000 against top tier brands.

Pink day: Did you know? The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness. Pink ribbons, and the color pink in general, identify the wearer or promoter with the breast cancer brand and express moral support for women with breast cancer. Pink ribbons are most commonly seen during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Fun day : Al Noor Family Fun Fair 2012, co-sponsored by ZAFCO and organized by Al Noor Training Center for Children with Special Needs, was a fun place packed with games, rides, bazaars and a variety of food stalls. It was a proud moment that 17 ZAFCO employees volunteered their time for the fundraiser together with manning the ZDEGREE promotion table.

ZAFCO employees and company made a donation on 19th February to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust for their cancer hospital established by Imran Khan. They recognized this contribution and thanked ZAFCO in their charity event organized on 21st February.

Training is the acquisition of knowledge, skills and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies.Purpose: Dealers should be better informed and knowledgeable to make educated sales. Timely training and product knowledge should be shared in order to be aware of the latest in technology and innovation. New tire patterns, competitors activities etc. It also works as a platform for all concerned to meet and discuss on improvement areas for new products in future. Any brand represents its image through its employees. Salesmen are the ambassadors and in our industry also through its dealers. It is an advantage for the brand to have learned, trained and qualified people to connect to the end users. Product knowledge gives confidence which strengthens the brand.Technical seminars were arranged all globally for dealers and salesmen. In 2012, three different types of trainings were conducted by Mr. Raghavendra (Head – Technical Department).

Both commercial and passenger car tires were on display and knowledgeable staff from ZAFCO were at hand to explain the superior features of ZEETEX tires and answer business enquiries from the visitors.Visitors enjoyed the entertainment show at the stand. A dinner was also hosted in the honour of our dealers to thank them for their support and were awarded souvenirs to thank them. Senior management from ZAFCO was present to welcome the guests and discuss the exciting plans we have for ZEETEX in the near future.

EU labeling & SmartWay verified technologies.Starting 1st November 2012, the EU labeling has been made mandatory for all those tires that are produced after 30th of June 2012. EU label covers 3 important parameters such asa) Fuel Efficiencyb) Tire grip on wet roads andc) Intensity of the passing noise

Energy efficiency is achieved by reducing the rolling resistance; which always reduces the fuel consumption and also CO₂ emissions. The ratings are given from A (most fuel efficient) to G (least fuel efficient). A tire rated ‘A’ on fuel efficiency will consume lesser fuel when compared to ‘B’ rated tire and so on. With regards to wet grip, braking distance is taken into consideration & the lesser it is on wet conditions, the better the rating. A tire rated ‘A’ on wet grip will stop in shorter time & at a lesser distance when compared to a tire rated ‘B’ on wet roads and so on. External noise is taken into account since it represents noise pollution. It is measured in absolute dB and the rating is given in terms of the number of arcs; 3 being more noisy when compared to 2 and so on.

Unlike EU labeling; Smartway focuses only on rolling resistance and is confined only to truck tires. The target values vary as per the axle position and is as under.

ZAFCO, as a socially responsible company that supports environmentally friendly products welcomes these regulations. These regulations do enlighten & help the consumers to take an informed buying decision. However, certain important parameters like mileage or CPK, aquaplaning, dry braking, dry & wet handling are NOT considered in either EU or SmartWay regulations. To summarize, while these regulations help the consumers to a certain extent, tire dealers can continue in giving expert advice and suggest the right tire for each end user need.
