COVER - ZAC SOUTHERNZac started with the Nambour and Hinterland Footy Club as a 7 year old in 2002. After a season of soccer, Zac - with a little help from his dad, Peter - decided that AFL was more his style and he joined the Under 8s. Zac played a couple of years of Under 10s and three years of Under 12s. In his final year of Under 12s in 2007, Zac’s team, coached by Pete, trounced Gympie in the Div 2 grand final by 100 points. It was this year that Zac’s talents were recognised and he earnt a spot in the Qld U12s Blaze team - and was also named captain. The Qld team, a third of them Sunshine Coast boys - were runners-up in the national final in Sydney behind a united Victoria.

Zac continued his AFL representative path through the Suncoast Power Under 14s and Under 16s, all the while playing for his club, the Mighty Blues. Zac played in the Under 15 State championships in Bundaberg in 2010 and was named Best and Fairest. He earnt his second maroon jersey as a member of the U15 Qld Scorpions with the national championships held in Perth. After solid performances, Zac was invited into the Brisbane Lions Academy. Zac was an integral part of the Under 16 Qld team last year, showing his speed and agility on the wing at the national carnival in Sydney where Qld claimed the Division 2 title.

Last year - a decade after Zac played his first game for Nambour and Hinterland - he lined up for his first game for the Seniors at just 15. He has been an integral part of the Seniors in 2012, and is into his third season with the Under 18s. Zac has always had a strong work ethic. Ability is one thing, but hard work and dedication can give players the edge and Zac has been rewarded for this. His club has always been a strong support, and Zac, who has always been loyal to the Nambour Blues, has taken much from his mentors over the years.

This year Zac has also enjoyed the valuable experience of playing with the Brisbane Lions Reserves. The intensity and speed of the NEAFL competition, not to mention the bigger bodies, has thrown up some good challenges for Zac. He has pinpointed areas to improve and knows he has to work very hard to achieve his goals. With Zac about to complete Year 12 at Matthew Flinders Anglican College, and with plans to study physiotherapy at Qld University next year, Zac’s time playing at the Mighty Blues is coming to an end. Next year Zac will head to Brisbane to play more senior footy, hopefully with the Lions Reserves, and will be vying for a spot in the Qld Under 18s squad. At the end of 2013, Zac will be eligible for the draft.

Over the last 11 years, Zac has developed wonderful friendships through his involvement in local, state and national carnivals, and lifelong friends at the Nambour Footy Club. Thank you for the support.

COVER - ZAC SOUTHERN SENIOR PRESIDENTS REPORT

With our seniors getting a break in the first week of the finals, it’s was up to our reserves to get us going in the final series. Unfortunately the boy’s boy couldn’t bring it home losing to Coomera at Caboolture last Saturday. So it’s all knock out from now on with the Blues having to travel back to Caboolture next Saturday to take on Ipswich. A win last weekend would have given the reserves a home final alongside our seniors, who will be taking on Redcliffe for a spot in the grand final. This should be a cracking game this weekend and although we have already beaten the Tigers twice this year, they should not be taken lightly. The word I’m hearing is that Logan are in great form & there is every chance it could be a replay from last year’s decider.

The B & F for the Division 3 was held last Monday evening and once again the Nambour Club performed outstandingly well. Michael Spring finished equal sixth in the reserves, whilst in the seniors, Shane Rawlins finished runner up to last year’s winner Daniel Milligan from Logan. This was a fantastic result for Shane considering he missed 5 games throughout the season, shows he is a class player as well as a great team man. Thanks to everyone who made the trip down to Wynnum for the evening, especially Jason Weckert for driving the bus and Troy for his wicked (DAD’S JOKES) on the way home, they had us in stiches. Also big thanks to Lance Nunn for letting us use his mini bus for the night.

The club B & F vote count evening has been set down for Friday the 5th October at the Palmwoods hotel. Tickets will be available from next week onwards for $35, they must be purchased before the 30th of September, there will be no tickets sold on the night.

Finally on a sad note, our condolences go out to our senior assistant coach Andrew Potter for the sudden passing of his mother. Our warmest thoughts from the whole club go out to Pottsy & his family.

GO BLUES!

Senior President

RESERVES MATCH REPORTQUALIFYING FINAL NAMBOUR vs COOMERACOACHES WRAPReport by GLENN BAUER

This week was a long week in anticipation for our first reserve grade qualifying final, the weeks training was pretty good and our confidence was good with a win over Coomera last time we met fresh in our minds but playing in finals as people well know is a little different it tends to step up a gear and this is exactly what the boys had to do. We had to come out strong and give it to them early, first bounce and the signs are good with the guys going in hard against some older heads Coomera had some early chances and were two goal up early but our boys stuck at it and played some good footy Adam Haberman was fantastic all game repelling many inside 50’s his attack on the footy and run was great all day great job.

Gilla and Matt Simpsion continued their good form from half back to keep their bigger forwards honest, Sticks had a good game on the wing with some strong marks and good run, half time comes and we’re down by 17 and the way the game was that was not much, the message at half time was for our midfield to work hard in defense and run with there midfield as they got a few easy kicks, our attack on the footy was great and we needed to keep that up - we just needed to clean our skills up and a few better choices and we would be in business.

Third quarter starts and the guys are switched on with our run and carry was great with good link up and skills combine this with attack on the footy and we were back in it Big Josh up forward was attacking everything and having a real crack. Chriso again showed us why he is a massive part of our side with some good hard running and good marking while Muddy was having a good solid game with his centre work great, with some good clearances Benny Armstrong was again dangerous giving us a few goals for the game end of the third and we were only 4 points down - this was one of our best quarters for the year.

At the break we drum in to keep running and doing the same as the last quarter and believe that our processes would get us through , last quarter was tough with Coomera stepping up and our boys trying to stay with them. We seamed to get close but that’s as far as we could get with a good hard fought effort by our boys, Coomera were we deserved winners on the day and our boys will be better off for the run

I would just like to thank all the supporters and seniors for coming along to help out - much appreciated. Also I would like to wish both teams the best of luck this week, we take on Ipswich and Benny and the boys will be out to smash Redcliffe - good luck to all players!
