Zabljak

Zabljak is the city on the highest altitude of the Balkans it is located at the altitude of 1456 m. Located in the very centre of enormous mountain of Durmitor in the middle of Durmitor National Park and represents the good destination for winter tourism, but for many tourist, this unique city is best choice for summer holiday. Mount Durmitor „The most beautiful severe scenery“, even described by one of the greatest world travellers who added: “Nature created this mountain in its most powerful uncontrolled exhilaration, forming its chaotic relief which confuses and at the same time, dauntingly attracts!” That is the reason that it was the „home-place” of Duke Momcilo and his horse Jabucilo and many other legends about mountain heroes like Marko Kraljevic, fairies, dragons and devils. The region has a scattering of glacial lakes, each one with its own personality. Totally 18 lakes, each a world for itself are a sufficient invitation to visit this area and to enjoy in the colors which retract under the alpine sun, emitting the reflection from the surface of the lake towards the sky. The largest and most visited is Crno Jezero (Black Lake), a short walk or drive west of Zabljak. The lake is dominated by the rocky peaks of Durmitor on one side, and deep forest on the other - an easy path along the shore allows you to appreciate it from all angles. Today it is becoming a leading winter center in the region, which is using the beauty of the nature in which it is located in the right way to affirm itself as a place for rest, as well as to affirm the state in which it is located. Zabljak is a famous mountain seat and climate healing place with extraordinarily distinguished continental climate. It is surrounded by thick pastures, glacial lakes, pine forests which are hard to find anywhere else in the Europe.
