Checking conformance of proposed new buildings with building codes is now easier with a new tool developed under the Wood WORKS! program by the Canadian Wood Council. CodeCHEK allows designers, builders and local government planning/building officials to determine how different wood products and systems (mass timber, encapsulated mass timber and light wood-frame) can be used in a variety of building types within current building codes. It also lists the applicable construction requirements related to fire safety. Funded by the B.C. provincial government through Forestry Innovation Investment, CodeCHEK’s capabilities include the B.C. Building Code, the new City of Vancouver Building Bylaw and the recently implemented 2020 National Building Code Tall Wood Provisions. The tool is free to use and can be found at: codechek.ca An upcoming webinar on Friday, September 25 at 10:00 AM PST will provide an important learning opportunity on CodeCHEK for all local government planning and building officials. Registration is now open at: wood-works.ca/bc QUOTE: Lynn Embury-Williams, Executive Director – Wood WORKS! BC: “CodeCHEK will be an important tool for local government planning and building officials as well as project teams in the planning and design process. The tool will streamline the process by providing code answers quickly and easily, helping communities achieve safe, economical, low carbon and high-performance wood buildings.” Contact: Lynn Embury-Williams, Executive Director, Wood WORKS!
