Welcome to the OAC’s Inaugural Your Weight Matters National Convention!

We are Glad You are Here!Welcome to the OAC’s Inaugural Your Weight Matters National Convention, titled “Explore. Discover. Empower.” We are very excited for the Convention as this is the first-time the OAC will meet many our members face-to-face.

For the past seven years, the OAC has represented individuals affected by the disease of obesity, their family members, friends and those caring for individuals affected. From national advocacy issues to instances of weight bias, the OAC has stood strong as the leading nonprofit organization fighting for the rights of those affected. Now, the OAC has the pleasure of bringing this same passion, along with quality, unbi-ased education, and advocacy experience directly to you.

For those of you who are newly energized to take charge of your weight and health, to those of you that are post-bariatric surgery patients on a quest for more answers, the Your Weight Matters Convention promises to give you what you’ve been looking for in education, action and empowerment.

We’ve carefully crafted an amazing program filled with the latest information on weight and its impact on health. From our specialized nutritional menu designed to help you stay on your weight-loss/maintenance track to our fitness classes which give you a chance to try exercises like yoga, Zumba, T’ai Chi, indoor cycling and much more, rest assured we’ve thought of EVERYTHING with YOU in mind. We promise you that you will enjoy this ground-breaking event!

Thank you for attending the Convention! Enjoy yourself, learn lots, make friends and above all – “Explore. Discover. Empower.”

Thank you,

Pam Davis, RN, BSN, CBN, OAC Chairman of the Board

Registration InformationEach Convention attendee must check-in at the OAC Registration area (Grand Ballroom Foyer) in order to receive their name badge and all Convention materials. Your name badge will act as your “ticket” into the general sessions and Exhibit Hall and must be worn throughout the whole Convention. It is recom-mended that you have a photo ID on hand in case it is required at registration check-in.

The Convention Registration table hours are:

Thursday, October 25: 10:00 am - 5:00 pmFriday, October 26: 7:00 am - 5:30 pmSaturday, October 27: 7:00 am - 5:00 pm

Hotel/Event ParkingSelf-parking at the Hilton Anatole is compli-mentary only for registered OAC Conven-tion attendees and Dallas Walk from Obesity participants (Sun.). The lot operates on an au-tomated ticket system, and parking vouchers are required for day guests in order to receive complimentary parking. Registered Conven-tion Attendees who are overnight guests will use their room key as their parking voucher.

For overnight guests staying at the Hilton Anatole If you are self-parking and are an over-night guest, your room key will serve as your parking voucher. You DO NOT need to pick-up a parking voucher at the Con-vention Registration table. When exiting

the parking lot at the end of your stay, you will use your room

key to exit and no pay-ment will be required.

For day guests attending the ConventionIf you are a day guest and are not staying at the Hilton Anatole, you will need to pick-up a parking voucher at the Mem-bership Welcome table in the Grand Foyer each day prior to departing to receive complimentary parking. Registered at-tendees are able to receive ONE parking voucher per day. This parking voucher will act as your ticket to leave the parking lot without payment. Parking vouchers can-not be replaced if lost. The one-day park-ing voucher does NOT give attendees in and out privileges, so if you plan to leave the property and return later, you will be required to pay for your second departure (same day). Once you use your parking voucher for the day, you cannot obtain a second in the same day.

MealsWe know it is tough to make good food choices when you are away from home. The OAC has made it easy for you to stay-on-track with your healthy eating habits by carefully crafting menu selections to meet all of your dietary and nutritional needs.

In developing our Convention menus, we worked closely with the Executive Chef at the Hilton Anatole and a registered dietitian to create meals that will make it easy for you to make the right food selections. If you are a bariatric surgery patient, the meals offered are designed to meet your dietary needs. If you have specific dietary requests (i.e. vegetarian, allergies, etc.) that were not submitted to the OAC prior to the Convention, please see the Convention Registration table and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Meredith’s book, Healthy Voice: Life Beyond the Weight relates that she tried food, diets, and eventually alcohol in order to fix her pain.
