Approximately 80 percent of Americans have at least one brother or sister. What's more important is that the sibling relationship is the longest relationship that most people will have in their lives. As with anything in life, sibling relationships have positive and negative aspects. This training will cover the consequences and associations of experiencing physical and emotional sibling violence for both children and adults. Participants will learn about various factors that can influence the occurrence of sibling violence (family environment, age, gender) and the differences between sibling violence and sibling rivalry. Participants will leave with tools & strategies for addressing physical and emotional sibling violence.

Emotional intelligence, plays a major role in a child’s development. Therefore understanding what it is and how a child’s environment can affect the development of this skill is important.
Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a way of recognizing, understanding, and choosing how we think, feel, and act. It shapes our interactions with others and our understanding of ourselves. It defines how and what we learn; it allows us to set priorities; it determines the majority of our daily actions. Research has shown that promoting social and emotional learning among children has led to reduced violence and aggression, better academic results, and improved learning environment. Participants will learn about factors that can influence EI and the consequences of its development for children’s lives at home and school.

Comprised of 4 Modules, the Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) is designed to help child care directors and infant/toddler care teachers become sensitive to infants' cues, connect with their family and culture, and develop responsive, relationship-based care. This training takes an in-depth look at cognitive and social-emotional development, encouraging growth within daily routines and tips on setting up appropriate environments for experienced infant and toddler professionals.
This module explores the positive impact of responsive caregiving routines, well-designed learning environments, and individualized care on the well-being and development of children from birth to three. This training will focus on Executive Functioning (EF) skill development for school-aged children ages 6-12. EF is like the air traffic control system of a child’s brain. EF is not innate in each child, rather a skill that needs to be developed. Research indicates that those who have stronger EF skills do better in educational settings, work, and manage their lives effectively. In addition to learning about EF, this training will also equip you with hands on EF interventions to use with the children in your programs. 3/28 Keeping Kids Safe
Presenter: Melanie Morong, YWCA Coordinator Prevention Education
The safety of children is a major concern of child care providers today.
Providers have concerns about keeping children safe from abuse and
neglect. The Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault states that, ‘1 out
of 4 girls and 1 out of 6 boys will be sexually assaulted before they
reach the age of 18. Of those, over 85% will be assaulted by someone
they know and trust.’ A Prevention Educator from the YWCA Sexual
Violence and Support Services will address these concerns by
providing information about the following; Reduction of vulnerability,
clues to possible victimization, responding to a troubled child,
identification of a possible offender and overview of Mandated
Reporting.

Presentador: Juan Carlos Cortes, RN, BSN /Emergency Response
Este entrenamiento se enfocará en RCP y rescate de asfixia para adultos, niños e infantes. Tratamiento para sangrado, quemaduras, estado de choque, convulsiones, y el uso del desfibrilador externo automatizado también será cubierto.
